I loved his flat cap. That mucky beige piece of history that sat on his head like it was part of him. The funny angle at which he wore it. It was odd to me that this man was real. This figure of stability which had been a part of my life for so long.
He sat there on his porch, that timeless position he'd always held, playing his guitar as always. His chair rocking slightly as his foot tapped away to the rhythm of his music. Music that i'd rarely heard but always known was beautiful. The porch was set a good ten yards or so back from the edge of his lawn, my vantage point from across the street meant that the soft sounds hardly ever reached me. Occasionally though, a morsel would travel my way, aided by the wind or lack of it. Always different though, once i remember some classical finding its way to my ears. Once something more latin causing my shoulders to go. Always soft, always beautiful.
So many times i'd wondered at the history of this figure of soul. I'd invented late night scenes in jazz cafe's with big old bluesmen crooning away to his guitar. Voices adding to the dance of his fingers. Days of joy and laughter spent down the local social club surrounded by other musicians, sipping a beer whilst sat around in the sun adding his sounds to whatever was going on around him. Evenings sat alone, playing until his fingers bled, yet he never noticed because the music took him to a different place.
I'd always slightly envied him, going to that different place. You could see it in his eyes. Sometimes alert and aware, watching me watching him, a smile crawling briefly across his face as his music amused him for whatever reason. When he was away though, at that place, i thought i could probably have walked right up to him and he wouldn't have noticed. Lost, totally. Eye's glazed over, body and mind separated, the music the only bridge between the two.

Nice idea, but be a doll, and learn how to form paragraphs. My eyes are bleeding.

Cable. It's more wonderful than I dared hope.
