Do I really need to tell you? You probably already know.
I decried the Super Bowl Halftime show as a "classless, crass, deplorable, stunt."
After Bono of U2 dropped an f-bomb while recieving a Golden Globe in 2003 I charged him with indecency and threatened to fine him $27,500.
I'm the guy who fined Howard Stern $27,500 for a broadcast that originally aired in July of 2001; and no his fine for a show he did three years ago has nothing to do with his recent criticism of the Bush administration. Speaking of Stern my charges of indecency against him led Clear Channel to remove his show from all six of the stations they own that broadcast it.
By some crazy coincidence the House of Representatives just recently passed a bill (H.R. 3717) that promised "To increase the penalties for violations by television and radio broadcasters of the prohibitions against transmission of obscene, indecent, and profane material, and for other purposes." Part of what this new act will do is up the maximum fine of $27,500 to half a mil.
And just a couple days ago I told the press that maybe having a "light regulatory touch" on voice over internet protocol technology would be a good idea, you know, just to be safe.
My name is Michael Powell and I am the chairman of the FCC, but what do I REALLY do at work? Well lately I've been making myself out to be the biggest dickhead in the country (OH NO! Now I'll have to fine myself!)
