So I lost.
In the first round.
The shame of it all.
I thought I'd post this reply to the criticisms of the post since I obviously couldn't say anything while the voting was still going on.
1. Length.
Yes it was long. I stupidly posted my first draft of the story rather than the second draft.
(I am a two draft man, always have been always will be).
I always go long on the first draft and try and find some worth in it for the second draft.
Second draft was much the same but not as long.
I can only apologise for that.
2., Spelling.
I looked through it again and I picked up one spelling mistake.
Racism had a typo. Not too bad for a first draft (if there are other mistakes let me know).
However, putting it through an American English spellchecker it was riddled with errors. Now it's not my fault you people decided that the way us Brits spell is too hard for you so you made up your own spellings.
Next time I might put my work through an American spellchecker before submission, but since Shakespeare and Chaucer never gave a rats ass about spelling I don't think I will either.
3. Grammar.
Fuck grammar. Seriously, I'm not a fan of rigid rules as English is not a dead language, it evolves. Also, I think American grammar and British grammar have differences so maybe that was part of it.
4. Style.
For what it's worth I was going for a PG Wodehouse type of slow set up for a fairly obvious and ridiculous conclusion. As I've said before I accidentally posted my longer first draft, maybe the shorter version would have held the attention more.
5. Believability.
It's a story folks, fiction.
Fiction does not need to be believable.
Although this story was based in part on actual events.
What parts are fact I won't say but you would probably be surprised.
So - congratulations to whoever beat me.
I would most likely have +2'd your post if it wasn't part of the competition.
Thanks to everyone that voted for my entry.

The opposing post made little to no sense. I couldn't tell if the guy who popped a boner was a cross between Radio and Rudy... Rudio, or was just a poorly written character.
In any event your post was magnificent in comparison, so I felt there was little choice.
I tend to reward people who step outside the typical themes of sex, death and toilet humour. Clever and clean imagination is a rare thing... and I saw a lot of the safe type posts in this initial round.
Yours was good, don't sweat it if you end up losing.

but 90% of the "popular" users would write "color".

That is easily one of the stupidest things i have read in my life.

No need to excuse yourself, Trout. You did good, and it was close (as about a million people pointed out). There's always next time.

Well Trout, I voted for yours.
I think a lot of people found this one "too close to call", if that's any comfort. I fully expect to be knocked out by a landslide once I finally get to post. By participating, we're all contributing to the madness, and hopefully improving our writing skills in the process.
The spelling issue is interesting: Colour or color? Essentially tipping your identity in an "anonymous" post. I would write "colour", but 90% of the "popular" users would write "color".
Fuck it. "Shade" works.

gracious in defeat, magnificent stuff. setting a standard i somehow doubt will be maintained...
btw - if you were after a pg whodehose tone, maybe needed to go a bit more over the top with it, ie REALLY florid use of language and metaphors etc

Trout, I'd have loved to see it go thru a Scottish spellchecker - Irvine Welsh could make a fortune my son!
