Steven Tyler once said that Aerosmith considers themselves to be more of a blues band than anything else. I don't know if I would go as far as to say that. They have always had a blues flavor in their rock sound and some songs were more blues than others, but they always had that rock influence poking it's head out throigh their music. I guess Aerosmith decided it was time to show the world just how influenced they were by the blues with their latest studio album, "Honkin on Bobo."

Bobo is a term used for harmonica. Therefore, despite the perversion associated with anything being honked on, they are honking on the harmonica.

This album was quite a pleasent surprise. I knew what i was getting into before I spent my $15 on the cd. I have never been a big fan of blues music, yet, I have always liked things influenced by them. Aerosmith, Eric Clapton, some Fiona Apple, and old country music have always found their way into my musical collection but the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughn, BB King, and Kenny Wayne Shepard have never really grown on me. Sure, I respect it but it's never been something that I could get into. That's why it was very hard for me to lay my money down to buy the new Aerosmith album. On one hand, my boys have never let me down but on the other, the whole genre almost always let me down.

I must have been feeling saucy because I got that album and popped it into my cd player and listened to it as I was making my way down I35. It is not easy to just jump into this album, even for the most hardcore fans. The album is very authentic to the blues sound. If Aerosmith is a rock band with a noticeable blues influence, than this is a blues album with a noticeable rock influence. The album starts with high energy in the song, "Roadrunner," and keeps that energy through "Shame, Shame Shame." Joe Perry sings a song on the album, as he has done a few times on past albums. The song is called, "Back, Back Train," and Tracy Bonham does backup vocals on it. There are a couple slower ballad-like songs, including, "Never Loved a Woman (The way I love you) but i would have to say my favorite song on the record is, "Jesus on the Mainline." It's a southern bluesy song with a gritty, hardworking vibe. It sounds like something the slaves would have sang in 1859.

My boys, Steven, Joe, Brad, Tom, and Joey have put out another killer album that will stay in my cd player for a long time to come. Maybe it will even turn me on to other blues music. The next thing you know, I will be wearing some sunglasses and a blue suit, singing about how my baby has left me and that has caused me to start drinking whiskey.

Peace,
STREETPUNK

Yes, "Beastie Girl" is derived from the once young punk band the "B.E.A.S.T.I.E. Boys".

And let's just say the mentioned rockstar man has been a strong influence for guitarists everywhere since my days as a "Sweet Child" and throughout my "Reckless Life".

I just want to take Joe Perry home with me. I guess you didn't need to know that.

You've gotta learn to play the blues before you can play rock.
Danko Jones said that.

I'm not a very big Aerosmith fan, despite seeing them live five times. You sold me on the album though - I'll hafta check it out.

Jesus on the Mainline is an oldschool Bluegrass song.
