Hi SpikeGoddess,
Good to hear from you. Where have I been lately? Just not as bored as work. And I found Uber less and less interesting also. But I always make a point to read your stuff. Fell in love with your mind a long time ago.
For the others that asked me questions about what I believe in:
It is true that a lot of people need superstitions to comfort themselves in the face of death or the absurdity of existence. We need a meaning to life because our brains are wired to extract meaning out of our perception of the world and use this for survival. De facto, this need for meaning extends past the physical world thus creating superstitions, metaphysics, philosophy etc.
However, it is simply not true that these superstitions are obligatory for a moral life. In fact, the world is full of believers that commit atrocities and atheists that help their fellow men. I am more afraid of a religious fanatics than an atheists. Atheists have a conscience, whereas religious fanatics have a dogma.
My morality is based on the fact that I want to live in happiness with other happy people. I have immediate rewards or penances for my actions: doing bad things to people generally means going to jail, or being the target of a kind of revenge. Doing good things to people generally leads to reciprocity, thus making me happy. Simple hey!
This post is a reply to several comments from this post: http://www.ubersite.com/m/30204
Also, when you become the victim of an injustice, you get one of the most powerful feeling a human being can feel and that can help setting a sense of justice towards others.
Another thing is this: People that equate faith to morality are almost implying that the only thing restraining them from killing us with a spoon is the fear of hell.
Finally, what do I believe in? It does'nt matter what I believe in, but if you really want to know, I am at peace with my existence and the world because of a spiritual experience called Zen enlightenment I had at 26, thanks to Douglas Hofstadter and Genevieve, a beautiful shaman.
I also studied cognitive sciences and philosophy extensively because I have been obsessed with the meaning of life and the nature of our conscious mind from age 4 to 26. I did my master's degree on the cognitive models reflected in Douglas Hofstadter works. I studied these question from every angles and even had a depression over these questions.
Now I am at peace and I will not spend the rest of my life trying to convince other people I am right, because I am probably not and words will always fail me. Why am I writing this? because you asked politely. Also, I just like debate and like to see opposite views be equally presented.
Spike

Razor has uncovered the visible sign.
I am not kidding you when I tell you that the user UberMadness currently has 66666 hits. And its user id is 6690. Both of which reduce to 3, numerologically.
Someone who does numerology in greater depth than I do, explain what this means.

**Quartermain, if there is only one true way, how are we to know what it is?**
If only there was some big dramatic event that had happened that would help point people to this one true way. It'd have to be something that people would still be talking about thousands of years after it actually happened. Something like that happened, it'd no doubt inspire all kinds of people. Can't quite put my finger on what it might entail though.

I'm sorry, but "read the Bible" or whatever won't cut it. I've read the Bible, I've read parts of the Korhan, I've read parts of the Talmud... I've read a lot.
It would be a wonderful thing if there was only one true way... it would be even better if we knew what it was.

**He give an example of how to humbly state one's personal beliefs without implying that he has found the ONE TRUE WAY.**
What if there is only one true way? Why would this be so odd, or bad? There is only one right way to do lots of things around here and people hardly ever balk at those.

Caulaincourt,

Oh, and to clarify my comment, I wasn't speaking to Vergedor in regards to the 'pushing beliefs onto others' thing. He give an example of how to humbly state one's personal beliefs without implying that he has found the ONE TRUE WAY.

I think this is substantial enough to merit its own post. Thank-you for responding, Vergedor. You honor me with your compliments, and thank-you for reading my posts.
I am happy for anyone who is at peace with their beliefs as long as those beliefs do not infringe upon the rights of anyone else. Congratulations to all of you who fall under this description. However, I must repeat: do not try to push your beliefs onto anyone else. It is unbecoming, to say the least.

My review from the otehr post...seeing as the subject is the same...
There has to be something after this, it makes no sense that I can think now and later I won't even exsist.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It does make sense that one day you will just cease to exist as every living organism had been in that state before. Its like saying that it doesnt make sense that you did not exist before you were born. Anyway, the end of the world will only occur once the sun engulfs it. Even if humans as a race were wiped out due to a major disaster the earth would continue to go on with other surviving species adapting and evolving.
As a race we are only a small dot on the timeline of the earth.
As well as this think of all the ancient religions which are no longer followed. No doubt that todays religions will one day be lost, forgotten or change beyond recognition meaning there is no one true religion to follow.
Science on the other hand will continue to grow and evolve as we become more and more advanced. That gives it an edge over religion. Science can be updated and move along with civilisation whereas any religious source cannot.
Another problem with humans as a species is that we have egos. All of us think we are important and thus all think that there has to be a meaning to our lives. Noone can accept that we are just another planet out in the wilderness of the universe that by random chemical reactions had the ability to support life. No doubt there are millions of other planets out in the universe that share this ability.

There is no sacrileges from my part there Nator. You are making the "sacrilege" by implying to know what a enlightened person should and should not think, say or do.

i believe in the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. I believe by accepting God into my heart my soul will live eternally in Heaven with its Creator. I believe Jesus walked th Earth and died on Calvary Cross and went to Hell for 3 days for my sins and the sins of the world. I believe most of the teachings* of the Bible. I believe all that is foretold regarding the AntiChrist, but it dosn't worry me, because i have the Love of God on my side.
*The bible has been rewritten and retold so many times, i'm sure some things/events/practices have been skewed throughout the THOUSANDS of years of its existance. I believe in God, not religious tradition.

Your shaman was a sham. You do not TELL people you are 'enlightened' when you in fact are. That's like sacrilige.

The structure of this post is totally confusing, ignoring the fact that the actual text is irritating drivel. Posts that kiss ass, plagiarise or talk bollocks are the bane of Ubersite, and you have somehow incorporated all three. Congratulations.
