On the post about my asshole boss, an unregistered user brought up the real point of the feeling-sorry-for-myself rant. Private schools have some serious problems. Here's a really good example:
At the beginning of the school year, a teen comes to her teacher with a very adult problemshe's pregnant, and the father is a senior at the school. Ok, whatever, you may be thinking. At a public school, it would be no problem. There would even be help for this student at a public institution.
The policies of the private school are completely opposite of what you would consider "Christian." If any children are found guilty of fornication (out of the student manual), both will be expelled from the school. This is coming from the very same school that teaches only abstinence. Obviously, the message they teach doesn't work. Furthermore, there is no help for the children who have put themselves in this situation to further their education if they are in the private school system.
There was never any education about what to do if you get pregnant. There is no education about any forms of birth control. Their policy is JUST DON'T HAVE SEX. Yeah, right. Everyone knows that the kids are banging each other right and left, and these schools are so small, that partners are probably being shared. But, as they say, "We will just cover it up so that no one knows, and so that we retain our Christian image." Image is all it is.
And this quest for image is what hurts the kids. These high schoolers have no clue when it comes to birth control methods, and they know even less about the biological parts of the reproductive system. Diseases? They have not idea one. And the schools' answer to this is that any teaching of birth control, sex, and/or protection promotes sex. It's crazy! If anything, keeping the information from the kids forces them to figure it out on their own. Also, just the idea of not being able to do something actually emphasizes the will to do the act. If it's forbidden, they will want to do it more, kind of like when you wanted to get a beer in a bar so badly when you were under-age, and then it wasn't so exciting when you became legal.
But don't get me wrong. I think promoting abstinence is a good thingteaching kids to wait does work, if they listen. But being prepared is just as or more important, so if they make the decision to have sex, they can be prepared to protect themselves, and they can be aware of any possible consequences. Should kids be having sex? No, but most are going to, with or without the pertinent knowledge.

Sex-ed should really be more than "just don't do it." I feel for you, I cannot imagine having to just stand by and let the school ruin a young girl's life.

I'm sorry "Stacey," but what in the fuck makes you think I don't "have experience with it" ????
How old are you? And you've been teaching for what, a year or so? Give me a fucking break.
You need to take the chip off your shoulder sweetheart, for you know not what you are talking about.
Presumptuous twit.

"I believe in making the world safe for our children, but not our children's children, 'cause I don't think children should be having sex." - Jack Handey
Good point. I think Sex Ed should be mandatory at least once every two years, starting in 6th grade.

Please make the distinction between "private" schools and "parochial" (Church-based) schools.
There is a *BIG* difference.

OOps. I was talking about parochial schools. There may be a difference, but not as much so at the high school level. But if you wish, you can read "parochial" where it says "private." hehehe. I said, "private."

I am not bashing you, I just want to point out that what you wrote is nothing more than basic common sense.
This same exact point has been brought up almost word for word for as long as I can remember, and longer

Good points.
More in-depth sexual education should be taught at those kind of schools.

Awesome.
As for the post. The people's fault for this is not the school but the parents. You have to read the literature before enrolling your child into such a school. I know i will not enroll my child in any religious sort of private school. I went to public and it worked out wonderfully. Granted to one of the best public schools in the US.
In the end the parents are screwed because when little Tammy comes back all knocked up, they are the ones supporting the kids.
