He always sat there, alone, watching.
Many simply saw him as a lowly bum, down on his luck. He never bothered anybody, he just simply sat on that same park bench watching people as they passed by. It cannot be said that he was a man. Normal men don't have the talent that this being had. Neither man nor God, he sat alone, watching the world, surveying each life that passed him by.
For you see, this person had what many would call a sixth sense. A sort of intuition, if you will. Not many would believe that he used to be a school-teacher - that even a creature like him once had a life of his own. I've always found him to be rather intriguing, I must say. At first, I made the mistake of taking him as another simple man who needed a buck for a bite to eat.
How naïve I was.
The trouble with us as men is that we rely too much on our own eyes to reveal what we believe as truth. As I walked up to him and handed him a crumpled five dollar bill, he gripped my hand and wordlessly looked into my eyes.
I won't lie, I was startled at first. And I can't help but regret pushing him away from me. But later that day during work, I couldn't help but find my mind wandering back to those piercing grey eyes. He seemed to know something about me. I had to go back.
What was it that he had seen in me? What did he know? Why would he grab me? My questioning deepened and slowly turned into a sort of anger. How dare he grab me like that? He had no right to do that to me.
I found him just where I left him. Alone on that park bench, with that steady gaze seeming to survey everything around him.
"I thought I would see you again, Kyle." He plainly said.
I blinked, faltered, and only stared back at him. He laughed and patted the spot next to him.
"Have a seat, my boy. You look like somebody kicked you square in the belly."
My previous rage quickly cooled to a simple curiosity, and I humbly obeyed his request. There was something he wanted me to know, and I couldn't even guess at what it was. It had been so long since he'd spoken to anybody, however he always hated the awkward introductions. He was marvelously articulate. Here is his story-
