After having quickly formed up in orbit, they made their way to the main battle fleet assembling a million kilometers from Earth. Within minutes the three surviving battleships of the human fleet came in sight. The Paris, the New York and the flagship, the Moskva. Surrounded by countless destroyers, frigates and hordes of fighters. Earth was really throwing everything it had left in this final fight. From a distance the fleet even looked impressive. But Ross knew that most of the fighter pilots were either mercenaries used to protecting sluggish convoys against inept raiders, or untrained rookies who had never fired a shot in a real battle before.
Impressive though the Human fleet might have looked. All eyes were aimed at the sight beyond. Dozens of Battlecruisers, easily as big as Earth's battleships. All flocking around a single massive behemoth. Darting between these were hundreds of the powerful Nyari fighters. With a large wing of fighters on either flank.
Their briefing had been clear. Engage the left flank, try to break through and engage the Battlecruisers from close range. The enemy's turrets would be useless at such short range. IN theory this all sounded mightily fine. But first they needed to break through what seemed like close to two hundred fighters in close formation.
"Captain?" Emily said over the com "I see it red leader" "there is no way that we are going to break through that while holding formation" "That is the reason we're not going to hold formation" Before his wingleaders could object to this huge breach in doctrine Ross cut them off "Every single one of our pilots is among the most gifted in this universe, else they would not have been transferred to Eagle Squadron. I'm not planning on just breaking through. I'm going to annihilate that left wing" Knowing full well that they were outnumbered almost four to one, he also knew that Eagle squadron could pull this off.
"Look, the enemy expects us to try to break through in formation. If we break up just before we reach their optimum weapon range, they suddenly have 60 small targets to hit instead of one big one. With our superior manouverability we are easily a match for them. Their weapons might be much more powerfull than ours, but by the gods they'll have to hit us first."
Slowly and ponderously the Nyari fleet began to move. "Okay men, it's showtime. Last one to whack a bad guy buys the beer" With those immortal words Eagle squadron closed in with the enemy. The enemy ships came closer and closer, and all of a sudden they were in the thick of it.The smaller human ships darting and weaving among the more sluggish Nyari fighters. Shutting out the cries that came over the com, both of elation after a kill as well as death cries when shields were penetrated and fighters blew up in a puff of red fire, the former more frequent than the latter, he focused on nothing but the fighter in front of him. Time and time again his particle cannons rained death and destruction on the enemy fighters.
Sweat dripping from his brow he was engaged with a particularly nasty fighter. Darting this way and that it was hard to hit even for Ross' perfected skills. But finally he hit it on its port engine. Causing it to spin out of control. Finishing his opponent he quickly sought out a new enemy. To his surprise there were none left. Eagle Squadron actually managed to decimate the enemy's left flank.
"Gold leader reporting, I lost gold 7. Come in wingleaders" "Blue leader reporting, lost blue 6 and 12" "Red leader reporting, red 5 is down and red 11 is limping home" "Green leader reporting, no losses although some came close"
Losses were miraculously light. With only four death and one disabled they were still almost up to full fighting strength. Knowing the worst was yet to come, Ross ordered his squadron back in formation to attack the behemoths in the center of the Nyari line.
Just as they entered formation, he saw that the main fleets were engaged. With sadness in his heart he saw that the Paris was already burning

It's a good part 2.....part 1's are always better, because there's a lot of info in it, and now you just go with the flow of your story!
I hope you don't do 3 parts only about fighting, but maybe do a part, what happends somewhere else, at the same time?
Good luck!
