I was looking at a camwhore post the other day, wondering if the people that rate these posts with +1 or +2 really think that it may eventually lead to getting laid, when I came across a review that interested me:

Being a naturally curious person, I clicked on his user info, and found the following information:

Now here is a person that has been on this site for well over a year... a person that has been here longer than about 95% of the people on this site, and yet we know so little about him, aside from him wanting to lick the ass of a camwhore.
But that's not even the interesting thing, it's just the tip of the iceberg. If his 'salad tossing' quote was his second reply, when was the first? Has he been lurking here for over a year, waiting for the perfect opportunity to again make his presence known, and offer us a further glimpse of the person behind the packofqtips? And why here... why now? Surely there have been better, more appealing camwhores for whom he could've offered his services... so why did he pick the one in question?
I haven't been able to find his only other reply, which might've shed more light on this character, but that hasn't stopped me from wondering about what it could've been... what else has he offered us? Was it another offering of sexual assistance to a stranger... was it outrage over allegations that Dr. Seuss may in fact have been a racist... was it an erudite articulation of his idea for a possible peace settlement that can be found lurking somewhere in one of the many posts on the tensions between the Israelis and the Palestinians? We just don't know.
The larger issue in question here is what makes people do what they do? What makes a person hang around here for so long without really contributing, but finding odd places here and there in which to make his ideas and desires known? Wanting to investigate this issue further, I decided to check out this site:

I began at #2, since we know Everything We Ever Wanted to Know about #1, and went down the list... clicking on probably the first 150 or so. The interesting thing is, most of these people... these early users who arrived shortly after the Creation... most of these people are long gone, not having contributed in quite a long time. In fact, many of these people created accounts that were never used, either in posting or reviewing. So in essence, these individuals came to Uber, created a login as if they would became active users, and simply disappeared. Or did they? Could it be there is a whole galaxy of people out there - like packofqtips - long-time registered users, that simply lurk in the shadows, waiting for strange moments to again return to our consciousness.
But I suppose the answer to this question is more accurately reflected in the parallels of daily life... some people remain in the shadows... some move on... some simply lose interest in the site... and some are probably dead. But it is interesting to know that there are some people out there like packofqtips... people that have witnessed this site grow and evolve, and yet chose to remain silent in their observation.
So I guess the general conclusion is that people have their own motivations for doing things... and those motivations are extremely varied. But in the end, whether you are user #8000 or #417, you all end up in the same place... looking at a picture of a camwhore and offering to lick her ass.
