Well, since I've returned and started posting and rating again after quite some time, Bart has decided to remove my ability to affect post ratings. Without sounding childish, I would like to know why.
My first guess is because I was giving negative ratings to the user Sideburns, who, in a very short amount of time has vaulted all the way to Most Viewed Authors. Far be it from me to try to knock him down for that perfectly legitamate accomplishment. As diluted it may be for something that exists only on the web.
The reason I minus two him (as well as others) is because his posts are not as great as he seems to think. I understand that most of Uber gives him +2's as well, including Bart himself, but it seems to be more for the fact that Sideburns is this cool, charismatic guy that everyone really likes.
I just refuse to buy off on that fact.
I realize that the things I post are for the most part shite. That is intentional. I don't post here to become a famous author, or to entertain a bunch of people who, to me, are just a bunch of words on a screen. I post to entertain myself, but that doesn't mean my presence here is pure unadulterated shit.
While the things I post are pretty stupid, when I rate something, I am rating from the bottom of my heart. I don't believe in mincing words or trying to protect others' feelings so most of what I write along with a rating can be pretty harsh. If my ratings - either the -2 itself or the comments - hurt your inner child, deal with it and go ride a bike. If I think a post is good, I will +2 it, if I think a post is not good, I will -2 it. I am not so sensitive to +2 something just on the dubious merit of the author's name, or the fact that 30 people before me decided to +2 it for whatever reason. Furthermore, I do not -2 anything out of spite.
Which brings me full-circle to my point.
It seems as though Bart is spiteing me. I could be wrong, but that's what it seems like and that is what I will believe until Bart convinces me otherwise. No, I realize Bart doesn't HAVE to convince me of anything, but if he doesn't want to SEEM like an asshole, he will step to the plate and offer an explaination.
Why does Bart seem to be spiteing me? The only reason I can think of in my warped little mind is because he thinks I am picking on Sideburns. Who it seems is Bart's special progeny. As I explained above, I am not picking on poor old Sideburns, I am merely voicing my opinion, which, as I was originally led to believe, is this site's entire purpose.
The fact that my opinion is unpopular should not be the issue here. The fact is that I have not been abusing my privelages(sp?) and so do not deserve to have them revoked, at least not without an explaination.
Also, it may surprise you that I can write full, coherent sentances with mostly proper spelling and grammar. The reason being, as I have also explained above is because until now, I haven't had the inclination to actually put forth any effort into what I wrote here.
Sideburns, Bart, read and heed, and hopefully respond.

Hey Bart, what about that did you or Ashlee take so much offene towards? honestly, what did I say that was "over the line"? Have there been countless other reviews that have taken the same route?
I'll tell you what, please reinstate my ability to rate, and I'll do my best to use my ability responsibly. Although I make no promises as to the fact that I won't pop my top and be an asshole to someone.
Remember when Ubersite was different? Not better, not worse, just different.

I usually write a post, then go back the next day to read the reviews--it's quite funny that you're ALWAYS the only -2 on my post the past few weeks/days, whatever. Curiosity got the best of me, so I clicked on your username and read your posts. I didn't like them--BLAM, -2. You're one to comment on users ''acting like adults'' when your replies to MY posts are all whining about me being a 'favorite' and 'MVA'. It's more than just you not liking me or my post.

Unlike most of the people on this site, I know bart reasonably well.
I will tell you this right now - bart did not take away your ability to rate because of any one rating you handed out, or because you came down against a specific user.
He did it because you did SOMETHING that he considered abuse of the system he put in place.
It was most likely brought to his attention by one or more users. It may even have been sideburns. but I'll tell you this right now, MVA authors do not get special treatment by bart.
Your best bet is to contact bart via the link in the upper right corner of the site, and see if you can resolve it with him.
Unlike most people who freak out seem to think, he's a reasonable dude and he'll work with you to resolve it if you treat him with respect. And by respect I don't mean kiss his ass and worship him, I mean don't be a dick and call him names and fill your contact form with profanity.

let me address a few concerns...
1. since you all think I'm a whiner, go ahead and minus two me, after all its your opinion, and all i wish to say in deference to that is the fact that you are all hypocrites. since most of your posts include a monumental amount of whining about your daily lives.
2. oh holy shit! I spelled "spiting" wrong!!! you do realize i addressed that in my post and also spelled a few other words wrong, just like everyone on this site is prone to do, but if you want to select one particular word out of my post and base your entire irrelevant point on it, go ahead.
3. as i also addressed in the above post, this site is about freedom of speech (or so Bart would have you believe) so if I want to make a post on the front page bringing to light a matter between me and him and the rest of Ubersite, I have that luxury. if you don't like it, well, the minus 2 button is right there.
4. which reminds me, I'm not afraid of minus two's, as many of you appear to believe.
5. the reasons I am "crying" about my inability to rate are these: a) because if I think a post is shit, I should be able to influence the ratings just like everyone else. just because you don't like my opinion is not justification to censor my input. b) Bart has taken away this ability because presumably I am picking on Sideburns. that is playing favorites and upsetting the balance of this site and basically sending the message that if Bart likes you as a person, you are going to be loved and supported irregardles of your ability to write or entertain. this opinion I hold very well could be flawed or completely wrong, but until Bart provides otherwise, I will hold firm.
6. many of you in your replies assume much about my character and yet hang others for making the same assumptions about yourselfs.
7. I of course realize this is Bart's site and he has full autonomous control over what happens in it. That doesn't change the fact that he is going against the very ideal that he pioneered when he created this site, that everyone has a voice of their own and it is the unpredictable behavior of all the users put together that make this site what it is.
Now, can anyone bring up valid points against me while remaining relavent and not resorting to childish insults?

There is usership, but even users must turn on eachother. DraconianKing, who initially WORSHIPPED me, gave me recently minus twos for really bad posts, which I dig. Anyway, Bart should stick his keyboard up his ass so he can't abuse his power.

Dude - happens to me ALL the time. This is just like the fucking U.S government, and it's buddies. Enron was indicted because of fraud, yet Bush protected his buddies in the company. There are 2 reasons I don't visit posts by authors on the same list I'm on:
1) Their work is bound to BORE the shit out of me.
2) My rating isn't representative of everyone else's, so it's pretty pointless, plus it could get me banned - OH NO!

i have a better idea for you. take four steps backwards, then turn around. jump as high and as far backwards as you can, and land directly on your computer. this should keep you away for a fair amount of time to get your shit in order.
then, when you feel you've waited an ample amount of time away from society and ubersite (preferably 6-8 months), write a list of ten reasons why should be allowed back into the community. spell-check and be sure not to mention any names. when this list is compiled (you can go up to the first floor and ask your parents if it is a satisfactory list), email it to bart. if he feels it is necessary to post it, he will. if he posts it under his name, it will automatically get somewhere in the neighborhood of 8000 hits, and everyone can vote if you have a substantial reason for being here.
when this is all completed, you are welcome back. until then, clean the shit stains on your underwear and watch out for potholes.

If you just want your opinion to be known why does it matter if your ratings don't count? You can still review and it will show your comments as to why you don't like a post. If it was just the fact you did not like sideburns post then it should not matter that your ratings don't count as long as you can still review. However by posting this you prove that really you just don't like sideburns and that you probably don't read his posts anymore and that you just want to bring his ratings down.
The most likely reason your ratings don't count anymore is because you rate per user not the post itself.
