It seem there is a large chunk of Americans who want to be lied too, want to be trick, but unwilling to admit it, they so desperately need to think that they are infallible, a heroic breed who thinks it's thier role to lead mankind to some bright future that they are unwilling to see things from any other perspective, faced with an unpleasant undeniable truth that would portray anything they support in a bad light their brain locks up, they get angry, they panic, they start spewing sound bites left and right, anything to convince themselves that they are right at all times, that they are the good guys and everybody else is bad.
For the last few months I've been trying desperately to ignore (for lack of a better word) America's foreign and domestic policy. I've been trying to ease myself into that peaceful foggy state, you know the one I'm talking about. Like putting on an old pair of shoes, so comfortable and familiar. That child like, false sense of security, where you root for the good guys in white and boo the bad guys in black, and you know in the end everything will turn out ok, because the President of The United States says it will. That state of mind, that innocence, that you used to take for granted, that you never really noticed until it was gone. You could turn on CNN and belive in Journalists, belive they really do care, that they really are vigilant watchdogs looking out for our best interest and the worlds only superpower dose indeed care about the rest of humanity.
But you cant go back, oh don't get me wrong, you can try, and you might actually succeed, for a while. But reality has a way of creeping back, like a cold draft of air, in the form of some pathetic political rhetoric or transparent propaganda aimed at stirring your bass emotions, and the warm fog lifts and the world is ugly again.
So you become cold, uncaring, the world is ugly, but its not your problem. So what if other people cant see through the fog, so what if even the most blatant propaganda can sway the masses opinions, stir up a patriotic war loving frenzy, turn people against one another for the profit of those in power, again its not your problem. What will be will be, and you should just take care of yourself, it's not your problem. You become Old Benjamin the donkey from animal farm, unaffected by Napoleon's propaganda but too cynical to get involved or take a stand. Or you can stand up and call it like it is, cry BULLSHIT, whenever you see it, nobody else will, certainly not journalist who are more preoccupied with furthering their own careers, too busy playing cheerleader to do any real reporting or to make any real stand. Definitely not the politicians snug as a bug in the pocket of the highest bidder, the majority of whom are so out of touch with real people that it borders on hilarious. And definitely not your neighbor, coworker or those overly terrified patriotic people who look the other way while their rights, one by one are taking away while they sleep soundly behind locked gates in their fenced off suburban neighborhoods. You can become one of those people, that the true believers and faithful just don't understand, the ones they hate, maybe fear, and no I'm not talking about terrorists. Those people who try to drag others out of the fog, the people who get in your way, get in your face, who show you the truth even when you don't want to see it, especially when you don't want to see it. The people true believers (bush supports and the like) label as hippies and tree huggers in an attempt to put a face and name on something they don't understand, maybe cant understand.
And so to end this rant (rant is too strong of a word, more like mouth fart) a comic..
