Ten new members to the European Union. As of tomorrow (1st May 2004)the EU will enlarge.
And from the looks of it most of Europe will celebrate.
Celebrate. What's there to celebrate?
Half of them are ex-communist.
Now I've nothing against communism but it equals one thing in my book, poverty If I was in charge of a political and ECONOMIC union I wouldn't let in poor countries, that's not snobbery it's just common sense.
"The new member states are poorer than the old ones"
This means that the likes of Britain will be paying for the fuckers. I for one won't be celebrating bringing 2nd world countries into our european "club". I doubt many of you know much about the EU but the "richer" countries subsidise the poorer ones, and we've just let in 10 countries, ALL of whom are poorer than the big three (UK, France, Germany). It's like taking on someone elses debt just for the fuck of it.
Why on earth are we letting these people in? They queue for bread for fucks sake. The average yearly wage in most of the countries is about the same or less than the average monthly wage in Britain. That's not good. Imagine if the US expanded to bring in lots of poor South American countries as states, you wouldn't be happy would you?
It also means that the 2500 Roma gypsies in the UK can now legally stay here. Free to sell their lucky white heather and clothes pegs to housewifes throughout the land, and curse them like in the Stephen King book 'Thinner' if they don't buy them. Cunts.
At least Turkey got refused and are still only candidates.
I'm making declaration, if the dirty Turks join the EU I'm moving to USA/Canada.
Anyone want to offer me a job?
I fucking hate Europe.

so. I'm guessing that the reason you're lying your ass off isn't simply ignorance but some mutant strain of malice....please show me HOW we're not net payees, smartass, when our mebership fees exced the monies recieved ? This doesn't even begin to compensate us for the lost cross border trade with Russia & the Ukraine due to new visa reequirements....wanker.

What the fuck has the fact that Poland will be a net payee got to do with my overall point that the ten countries that have joined are in the main poor? The ten put together will not be net payees.
The Economist doesn't seem to think that your beloved Poland is even worth a fuck, net payee or not.
"The current wealth gap is so large that the Economist Intelligence Unit, our sister organisation, has estimated thateven if they grow at around 4% a year for the foreseeable futureit would take Slovakia almost 40 years to catch up and Poland almost 60 years."

A bit of respect from you wouldn't go amiss. You're not exactly one of the powerhouses of Europe.
In fact, my home town (pop approx 35000) has 2 Polish clubs.
2!!!!
That tells me that your own people don't even want to live there.
And your beer is shit.

yidele - I've got a degree in Politics and Economics.
I've studied the Maastricht Treaty (in full), I know how the EU works politically and economically.
I may be a europhobe but I do know what I'm talking about. That's WHY I'm a europhobe.

It's kind of funny reading europhobes spout off about things they plainly do not understand...but since you want to know ( and plainly you have neither read the accession treaty nor know anything about the actual financial arrangements), most of the countries joining will be net payees. This means that the amount of money paid into the union will be greater than the eurofund benefits paid out. This is certainly the case for Poland & the Chech republic, and we ( Poland) are the largest & the richest of the countries joining. For me this means little more than which line I get to stand in at border crossings & the fact that as an EU citizen I no longer need to buy separate health & auto insurance when I go on holliday in the mediterranean. As far as work is concerned, Kruger Industrial Polishing has regional branches in all Euro countries, the USA, some mid-eastern countries, far east (china, India, Singapore) so that I can work pretty much anywhere already, I don't ned the EU for that.
