**THIS IS A TOPIC I THINK ONLY AMERICANS CAN UNDERSTAND SO BE WARNED**
"...one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. "
Really?
Are we one nation under God? Are we indivisible? Do we have Liberty and Justice for all?
I'm not sure...
First of all, "Under God."
If this country and the people in this country were really under God, don't you think it would be just a little different here? I mean, look around and what do you see. I see just about everything that God forbids running ramped threw out this "Nation under God". For example, homosexuality, 20 years ago this was just about the darkest thing imaginable. Now, I know about 10 people for sure that are homos(not to diss them), and at my school we even have a club made specifically for them and people who are pro homo. I could go on, but you get the point.
So, "one nation under God". Nope not that.
"Indivisible" Hummm...
Fist a history lesson. Civil war. Definitely not "Indivisible" there. That's not my only bit of proof(I know that one was kind of stupid). How about this "War" going on. I know absolutely no one agents it.
Sure...I know more people agents it then for it. How about you? Now you can argue that that statement "Indivisible" means we wont rip our country into little bits. It has many possible meanings and don't have time to cover all of them.
So,"Indivisible". Maybe...
"Liberty" ...
That depends on what you think liberty is. Here is my definition of liberty, Freedom with limitations threw laws. That is just my definition. And using my definition, Liberty we do have. "What about Government secrets?" you ask? Well my thoughts are that if they don't tell us we probably don't need to know about it. I'm happy with the way things are and probably will be until I die.
So,"Liberty". Ya, we got it.
"Justice for all". Got to think about that one.
We have "justice" in the courts...right? What about in the work place? School? Help me out here! Where is "justice"!? Is there that so precious "justice" in sending people out to die in a so called war!? Or how about that 63% or so of rapist that get of the hook? What about the Water Gate scandal? What about racist, sexist and all other hate groups out there? Where is the "justice" with them!?
There is more justice up my butt then in America.
"Justice". No such thing.
Its sad really what this country has been demented into by a few "bad apples" in high places.
What should the Pledge of Allegiance be? Let me know what you think.

I agree with your analysis of our pledge. I guess "under God", "indivisible", and "liberty and justice for all" are pretty much ideals nowadays. I would say America is fucked in a couple decades. I can see our society going to shit just like all great societies before it. This will happen because.....people suck. If we could get back to the basics of what made America great then we might have a chance. But with so many liberal fucktoy judges in the courts I can't see that happening.

"I stopped reading when i relized Under God to you means Under a Christian God. Which it doesnt."
you, bitch, are wrong. Francis Bellamy (1855 - 1931), a Baptist minister, wrote the original Pledge in August 1892. He was a Christian Socialist so the God referred to in the pledge is the Christian God.

Flak - Buddy let me explain something to you. You are acting like a moron. Not because of the content of your argument, but because you are arguing on a retarded post. Nobody who has made it through this crap is going to waste time to debate the gov vs church issue with you. The fact that you went and probably searched the internet to find quotes for this post shows pure and total retardedness.
Just trying to help you out.

We can all find a list of quotes pointing either way on the "God" question.
"The God who gave us life gave us liberty... Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction... That these liberties are the gift of God? The bible is the cornerstone for American liberty." -Thomas Jefferson and More Quotes by Jefferson
"The highest glory of the American Revolution was this; it connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity." -John Quincy Adams
"We've staked our future on our ability to follow the Ten Commandments with all our heart." -James Madison
"You can't have national morality apart from religious principle." -George Washington and More Quotes by Washington
"The philosophy of the schoolroom in one generation will be the philosophy of the government of the next." -Abraham Lincoln
"Our country was founded on the Gosple of Jesus Christ." -Patrick Henry
"The longer I live the more convinced I become that God governs in the affairs of men. And have we now forgotten that powerful friend? Or do we imagine we no longer need His assistance." -Benjamin Franklin
"While the people are virtuous they cannot be subdued; but once they lose their virtue they will be ready to surrender their liberties to the first external or internal invader." -Samuel Adams
"We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion." -John Adams
"In matters of religion I have considered that its free exercise is placed by the Constitution independent of the powers of the General Government. I have therefore undertaken on no occasion to prescribe the religious exercises suited to it, but have left them, as the Constitution found them, under the direction and discipline of the church or state authorities acknowledged by the several religious societies. ...that their duty is to remain as their Creator made them, ... I shall need, too, the favor of that Being in whose hands we are, who led our fathers, as Israel of old, from their native land and planted them in a country flowing with all the necessaries and comforts of life; who has covered our infancy with His providence and our riper years with His wisdom and power, and to whose goodness I ask you to join in supplications with me that He will so enlighten the minds of your servants, guide their councils, and prosper their measures that whatsoever they do shall result in your good, and shall secure to you the peace, friendship, and approbation of all nations."
Thomas Jefferson -- From his Second Inaugural Address.

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America."
Why do you pledge? Help me out here, people? By allegiance, do you mean money to PBS, because they're always asking for pledges. What flag? Is it the American flag? What if they change the flag, do you have to re-pledge allegiance?
"And to the Republic, for which it stands"
What if they amend the constitution, and the US is no longer a republic? Would it be the Monarchy? I always thought that it was "for Richard Stands" when I was a little kid. Does anyone know anyone named Richard Stands?
"One nation under God"
Whose god are they referring to? Is it Jo-Bu from Major League? Do you have to give Jo-Bu a glass of rum every day forr good luck? I heard that some crazy doctor guy is suing some kid for saying this because he doesn't believe in god. Any ideas?
"Indivisible, with liberty, and justice for all."
What exactly does indivisible mean? Does it mean that you have trouble doing long division? What do you think? With liberty? What if the Patriot act gets expanded? Then would this have to be removed? And justice for all? That was the album that Metallica sold out on.
There you have it: a three-minute crap-post. All I did was recite the pledge of allegiance, and ask dumb questions about the meanings.

"I was going to give you a -1 but you do realize that the "Under God" statement refers to our founding father's coming here to escape religious persecution. Well I guess you don't."
---------------------------------------
Our founding fathers did not come here to escape religious persecution; that was the Puritans. The founding fathers came here to make money, simply put, in the new colonies.
The "Under God" statement was added to the Pledge in the 1950's as a retort to Communism.

The fact is that Christianity did play a large part in the formation of this great American experiment in representative democracy. Get over it.

The Pledge is a standard to which all thinking Americans should aspire. It is not a description. America and American freedom is not perfect although most of the anti-American, anti-Capitalist naysayers expect it to be.
Perhaps we should remove those words from the pledge. That way all of the minorities could quit bitching. When they start bitching about being treated unjustly because they were arested for selling crack we could look at them and say, "Hey fool, you act like the Pledge of Allegiance promised you justice." Not a bad idea.
As for the "God" reference... I can take it or leave it. I need no government legitimization of my religion. The fact is that Christianity did play a large part in the formation of this great American experiment in representative democracy. Get over it.
