Actually it isn't that cool, and that is not actually my office, it is right next to one of the oil Rigs I sometimes work on. I was bored so I thought I would post it. I know boredom isnt a good reason for posting, but I am going crazy out here. Any questions about Oil production, fire away, chances are I am going to be camping on this post until something good comes on TV.

can crude oil be used for anal lube?
-----------------------------------
In most cases it is a little to grainy with sand or other impurities when it comes out to use.

"Any questions about Oil production, fire away"
I found that pretty funny.

Either nobody else got that, or my humor is way too cheesy.

Curious, in the media you here all the time about how high prices of oil are and how the oil companys are just trying to make a ton of money. How come no one ever talks about Peak Oil? What is your familiarity with the subject?
-----------------------------------
I am not sure what you mean by Peak Oil. As in the theoretical point where we will be producing the most amount of oil we can? That is a shifting point. Yes oil is limited, but the industry is always finding ways to produce more oil from older wells, and is still continuing to find new reservoirs. Nobody can really pinpoint when we will reach the peak of oil production.

Actually wouldn't OPEC be part of an Oligopoly, rather than be an Oligopoly? I am may be wrong from what the term means but from Monopoly and Oligarchy, I would think Oligopoly would be a small group that completely controls the price(not 100% accurate since there are 100's of small oil companies, but accurate enought since the price is largely controlled by a few groups). I think calling OPEC an oligopoly itself implies they completely control the oil price, which isn't true, you just hear about them more in the news. Venezuela, Nigeria, and a number of other countries have impact on the price of oil when they change their production rate, you just hear about them less. I am not trying to argue here, just want to find out if it means what I think it means.

The water is great here, it just looks bad in this picture. I am off the coast of east Kalimantan in Indonesia.
Snake problem??? I have a trouser snake.
I don't know if Cartel is the correct term, Oligopoly seems more accurate, although OPEC is vastly lager than any of the other oilk unions I don't know if that is 100% accurate either. Both of those terms however would be better then group, which I used.

Sorry that would be pretty hard to ship back. As far as Oil being produced in other areas and Opec still dictating the price, well OPEC is by far the leading oil producing group(sorry I am not sure of the proper term here it isn't quite a monopoly, maybe a union, whatever) and to my knowledge they don't actually set a price they decide how much they are going to sell, the price then comes down to simple supply and demand. Since they are such a large producer, when they cut down on how much they sell there is a big jump in the cost.

Any chance you could hook me up with about 100 barrels of oil? Gas is getting silly expensive... which leads to my second question. If you guys are getting us oil, why is OPEC still anally raping us onthe cost of oil? Can't you increase production or anything?

Nice wee rig. What do you do?
------------------------------------------------
I am a wireline engineer, which mostly means when I am offshore I am either working 5 hours a day or up for about 24 straight. Basically after they drill the hole i lower in tools and let them know where the oil is and how much. I also get to use explosives to free stuck pipe or to allow oil to flow after a metal casing has been put in the hole and cemented into place.

Does oil production lead to gay sex? Cos' if so sign me up!
-------------------------------------------------
On one of the rigs two dudes were caught fucking and sent home. I am sure it happens pretty often around here, people are always holding hands and laying about in their underwear together in bed. people tell me it is cultural, but I don't buy it, that is just too fruity.

No we can't swim in the water, you can't tell from this picture but it is very warm here, and the water almost always looks great. I think instead of two weeks notice I will send my boss a picture of me diving off the side of the rig.
