"Nail in my hand
From my creator
You gave me life
Now show me how to live"
--------------------------------------------

As we pulled into the parking lot, the only sounds to be heard were four distinct clicks, as Roger was placing a clip in each of the four pistols. Don carefully put the car in park, making sure that neither he or us had left any fingerprints on the Buick. "Put your game faces on," was all that was said as we prepared for the task ahead. My mind was racing, as everything that had transpired over the past three weeks came rushing through my mind...

I was the last of the crew to be picked, and wouldn't have gotten into this gig if it hadn't been for Don's first choice getting killed in a convenience store. I came highly recommended, or so I hear, from my ex-partner Rick. Rick knew that I was a quick thinker and a sharp shooter, and that was all Don wanted out of the ninth and final member of his crew.

I was less than a week out before Rick found me. At first I told him no, that I already had two strikes on my, and a third would keep me in jail. Rick knew how to push my buttons though; all he had to do was tell me the score.

Fifty-four million.

Ten minutes later I was in. I knew that hitting a national bank was as risky as it comes, but the fact that there would be that much money there was too tempting. Hell, the plan Rick had come up with wasn't even that bad...

Me, Rick, Roger and Don were the inside crew. Our job was to go into the bank, take out the three security guards, hit the vault and hopefully get out of there in under two minutes. From Don's scouting we knew there would likely be one guard in the north corner of the bank, one in the manager's office, and one guarding the vault.

Greg, Annie, and Blake would be in the bank when we hit it posing as customers. If the police were able to get there before we got out, we were to take them as our "hostages." The four of us were broken into two teams, myself and Roger were one, and Don and Rick were the other. I was Roger's "point man," whose job was to keep the gun pointed and resolve any "situations." Me and Rick were also the guys in charge of the guards, which was for the best considering we both could take any of them down with one shot without killing them.

We had already accepted the alarm would likely be set off, although it would be a pleasant surprise if it did not. Don figured from the moment the alarm is tripped, it would take 150 seconds for the police to arrive, so we had to move quickly. Blake had come in a painting van, and was to leave the keys in the ashtray in case we needed it.

Then there was Mac and Vincent. They were meant to each be on separate buildings overlooking the bank, and to cover us in case things got heated. Vincent was also to set explosives off a half mile from the bank by remote control. One of the targets was a car, and another was an empty warehouse.

...So that was it, and after much preparation we were finally going through with this. We threw on our masks and then went running into the bank. Rick and I went in first and shot the guard in the lobby before he knew what was happening. The second guard came out, and got his gun out of the holster right as I took him down. Don and Roger were screaming to the customers get down, and we watched as they all hit the floor.

The next thing that happened wasn't an action so much as a sound. I couldn't begin to describe it, but it resembled a thud. I looked over the desk to see the vault guard with his gun pointed in our direction, and unfortunately was forced to put one between the eyes. I looked to my left to see that Rick had taken one in the neck. I bent down to try to help him, but he was losing blood too quickly...

"Forget him man, he's already dead!"

I looked up to see Don trying to get me to continue with the job, and with much reluctance I got up and watched the crowd as Don and Roger went to the vault. Thirty seconds passed, then sixty. Ninety seconds ticked away, and I hadn't seen them yet. The cops arrived just as they came running from the back with four bags full of money. We took our "hostages" and came out of the door...

Another sick thud as I watched one of the cops hit the ground. Mac and Vincent were firing down at the police, and gave us ample cover. The six of us hopped in the van and took off. I watched out the back as two sets of fire from the rooftops became one, then moments later there was no fire from the roof. I didn't know if they were okay or not, but we kept moving until we could get to our switch point...

We reached the garage a few minutes later, and began the process of switching into two cars. Don, Roger, the money and I took the Toyota, while Greg, Annie and Blake took the Ford. We pulled out of the garage casually and with no police choppers or siren sounds in the vicinity, it seemed as if we actually were going to get away with this.

We split up and took separate routes to our final checkpoint, a hotel about twenty miles east of the bank. Roger, Don and I arrived first, and we all sat there and waited for the other car to show. Two hours must have passed before I became restless.

"Where the hell could they be Don?"

Don looked at me, then looked away. He seemed irritated with the fact that I was asking questions, and decided we should all get out and stretch our legs. I went to the hotel office to get some coffee when I saw the news. The Ford had blown up hours ago, and it was thought that all the members of the robbery were dead.

I came out to tell Don and Roger what happened, and found Don resting on the hood of the car...

"Don, they're dead, all of them. The police think we're dead too."
"Perfect. Now there's no chance of being caught."

The fact that he was being so cold really pissed me off...

"Hey man, we lost six men today. Rick was my friend, and he died for this heist, so try to show some sympathy. Where the hell is Roger anyways?"

Don motioned behind me, and I followed his gaze into the alley. I saw a smear of red on the ground, and before I could turn around I heard that distinct click one more time...

OOPS maybe the polite thing to do would have been to think twice before adding anything less than a +2 to someone's +2 streak. Maybe next time I'll try that instead! Maybe you should too!

Naah, this post is crap!

Even though it has an obvious influence, not bad at all. Very creative ending. I will thoroughly enjoy reading all entries to follow.

Awesome. Had a sort of Reservoir Dogs ring to it, but that's not a bad thing.

Woman: I'm not going to press charges, but I assume you'll want to
punish him.

Homer: 'Preciate the suggestion, lady, but he hates that. And I
gotta live with him.

Bart: You're the man, Homer.
