What are the true goals in Iraq and beyond? (559 hits)

What is is that drives America into this war on Iraq? Why exactly have we behaved in this
manner? These are some of the questions that have occured to me in reading the latest slew
of posts about our involvement overseas. Why? The question keeps occuring to me over and over.
Why Iraq and not Iran? Why not Armenia?

Sure there are the obvious reasons, we were lied to by Bush and that's why we're there.
But that isn't the only reason.

We allowed ourselves to be lied to for the most part. Any person who didn't suspect some
sort of personal agenda from Bush is lying to themselves all to well, or they believe Bush
to be some perfect objective over-seer, an almost Jesus like individual who put his family
completely out of his thoughts in all his decisions. Not likely for anyone human if you ask me.

This is isn't about whether or not we are right or wrong in being in Iraq, it's about the real
motivations that have driven the world events over the past few years to culminate to where we
are today.

I guess my greatest concern for all of this is what do we all want out of this war or
terrorism or anything else.

The people who want peace seem to understand what they want, what their goal is. Peace.
The cessation of violence. Be it for oil or religion or whatever. They believe the world
would be a better place without war. Simple enough for me to understand. Not exactly realistic
without a huge change in the world as we know it though.

What does America truly want in Iraq? Or even before Iraq, in Iran, or anywhere else we have
toppled the government and left a power vacuum to be filled in our wake? What do we gain
from these things other than regret and trouble? We meddle and meddle and try to make things
right but it gets out of hand and we leave. Do we get off on the power over others or is something more?
What is it we are trying to accomplish above and beyond the petty and simple goals of each
conflict? Are we really trying to make the world a better place this way?

So what do the terrorists truly want? What goal are they trying to achieve? What
actual motive drives their violence? Not what the 'foot-soldiers' of Al Queda believe
they are trying to achieve, but what exactly is it that Osama and the other members of
Al Queda want? Is it truly the death of all Americans? Or do they get off on destroying
freedom? What do they believe they are accomplishing through their acts? Are they trying
to get our attention? Is it more than attention? Do they have some sort of demand that we
must fulfill like give them a million billion dollars or convert to Islam or what?!?
Are they really trying to make the world a better place this way?

All in all I just want some ideas on what the real goals we are trying to achieve are. If anyone
has any ideas that is.

It depends who you ask I think. You ask soldiers who are actually there and they will tell you they are fighting for human rights. (most of them will anyway) You ask the government and you will get a different answer. And maybe we were there for all the wrong reasons, but as Itchy stated in one of his posts, "for whatever reason, we ARE IN Iraq"... and we need to figure out how to complete this whole damn mess without leaving as you said a "power vaccuum" where even more death and tragedy will ensue.

Very well written.

Kent: Well, what do you say to the accusation that your group has been
causing more crimes than it's been preventing?

Homer: Oh, Kent, I'd be lying if I said my men weren't committing crimes.
