Was it Shakespeare or Seinfeld who said as we age we become more like children? Probably both, it doesn't matter anyways. I went to IHOP (before 12AM and not by choice) for a study group and when I walked in I noticed three clowns sitting at a table eating. I've never really cared for clowns, but I'm not one to get freaked out by them. So I'm thinking ok...just old lady losers who haven't anything better to do with their lives. No anger has been directed at the clowns, not one ray. As I finish my meal and get ready to leave a group of about 6 old people and 2 middle agers walked in and sat near us. One old man had a buzz-cut and some nice metal rimmed glasses that gave him fish-eyes, he didn't seem to be all there, when the waiter walked by he kept eyeing him suspiciously. A little later the clowns finished their meal and proceeded to the old people table. I don't know if this was a previously planned engagement or an impromptou lets-make-the-old-people-feel-special-before-they-die gathering. Anyways, the clowns proceed to start telling jokes, and eventually break out into songs. The old people sing along. Here are 6 old people, who appear to be fairly normal (for old people,there were two or three oatmeal spoons on the table), and they're singing kids songs with clowns. This continues and eventually a little kid even pops into the picture, it's complete and over, the old people have finally regressed back to kiddom.
There is no easy solution to this problem, the old people could have tried to destroy the clowns, but probably would have fractured their own faces in the process. It's a shame really.
