The story began "Meeting by night" >>> http://www.ubersite.com/m/33473

The knife wielder returned to his feet and quickly surveyed the situation, Eli, the man who was once armed with the flechettes was lying crumpled on the ground. The man's younger brother, Richard was down, in a pool of blood. A pair of wolves had torn Richard's throat out and were now grouping with the third remaining wolf, circling to surround the knife wielder.

This was, while disappointing, not surprising to the knife wielder, what was surprising though was the addition of another man on the path. The newcomer's head was wreathed by long white hair, he wore the pelt of an animal around his body and in his hand was a bloodied rapier. Standing at almost 6 feet tall the man was gaunt and lean; there was a dangerous, deadly air about him.

The knife wielder, Robert removed his knife from the groin of the now dead wolf at his feet. Robert held the blade in the guard position and watched as the strange human approached him.

"There is a toll on those who would cross these woods" the man called out in a deep sonorous voice. Something about the man's tone seemed especially sinister, unnatural, and unholy. The man held his rapier with expert ease and positioned the point close to Robert's throat. "Drop your knife" He commanded.

Robert obeyed. The knife after all would not help against the longer blade of the rapier. The man gave an unpleasant smile and lowered his thin sword, "Now" he began, but was interrupted when Robert tackled him. Forcing him to the ground, Robert struck the stranger in the throat with his fists repeatedly. The man fell against the forest ground gasping for breath. Robert wrapped his hands around his opponent's throat and began to crush the air out of him.

The man gasped and twitched and finally lay completely still. With his hands on the man's throat Robert felt his pulse fade, and then die away completely. He got to his feet, grabbing the rapier as he went and was surprised to see that the wolves had not taken advantage of his preoccupation with the other human. All three wolves still held their distance.

Now armed with a real weapon Robert became the hunter, he stalked forward when he heard a sound behind him. He spun to look; it was the white haired man. Before Robert could react the man's right hand smashed into his face. Dazed Robert staggered to his knees. Another forceful strike to the head drove the consciousness from Robert's body, and all he knew was darkness.
