Since there are going to be too many reviews on Troy, Shrek 2, and all of the other latest films, I thought I'd do a movie review on some of the more classic films.

Today will be the 1994 classic, Interview With The Vampire, starring Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Antonio Banderas, and a very young Kirsten Dunst.

Actually, I had never seen this film until very recently. I had seen bits and pieces on the ABC cut version, but I knew it would not be the same experience. Since it hardly airs on the movie channels anymore, I had to watch it on DVD. I would have never quite expected quite so much from this masterpiece. It had just about everything: Vampires, blood, violence, some subtle but still awesome effects, and some very sick and twisted humor.

OVERVIEW: A rich plantation owner, Louie, is sick of life. His wife and child died, and in his grief, he gambles in shady areas and never gives the possibility of death a second thought. A nearby vampire named Lestat sees Louie and offers him the chance to join him in a dark world filled with blood, sex, and power.

The best part about writing an old movie review is the fact that I don't have to worry about spoiling anything for you people, since I'm guessing most of you have seen this film anyway. I must say, I laughed when I saw Tom Cruise dance around with a dead woman. To tell you the truth, I kinda felt like an asshole, but it was still funny, dammit. I also enjoyed the 'no eating in the house' rule.

The only problem that I had with the film was the inconsistency with the legends about vampires. If you compare it to The Lost Boys (review coming soon) you'll find that there are differences:

Lost Boys - Coffins are not needed. The vampires hang upside-down in a cave.
IWTV - Coffins are a necessity.

Lost Boys - You can kill a vampire by jamming a wooden stake through the heart
IWTV - A stake through the heart won't do the job. What you have to do is light a vampire on fire and slice through them with a sickle.

Lost Boys - Holy water is very bad
IWTV - Holy water doesn't bother a vampire. Neither do crucifixes.

Lost Boys - Vampires fly
IWTV - They don't fly, but they are really really fast

Of course, there are the similarities, like how sunlight is very bad for a vampire, or the ineffectiveness of garlic. However, I still have a problem with all these unannounced changes.

"Shit, I thought a stake through the heart could kill a vampire!"
"No way! I've thought of something better.... what you have to do is light them on fire and cut them in half with a farming tool."

I mean, why can't we just stick with ONE vampire legend? It all gets terribly confusing.

The Maio-movie-meter says.....

PLOT: 10/10
EFFECTS: 9/10
HUMOR: 8/10

OVERALL: 9/10

Watch it again, for old time's sake.

Awesome movie . . . but seriously, GNR sucks so much dick it should be a federal crime. If you are going to go with covers of "Sympathy for the Devil" stick with the Jane's Addiction XXX version.
