Who could forget the Nickelodeon classic, Salute Your Shorts? I know I couldn't. That show was the epitome of ass-kickery, especially with colorful names like Sponge, Budnick, and Donkeylips.
OVERVIEW: Sent off to Camp Anawanna, a bunch of kids go through all sorts of adventures together with the goofy camp counselor Ugh to keep them in line.
Unfortunately, it has been so long since I've seen this beautiful show, that only three episodes stick out in my mind:
1. The one where the main counselor's daughter brings chaos to the camp, so the rest of the campers go to teach her a lesson.
2. The one where Sponge enters a radio contest to win $1000, and everybody wants a cut.
3. The one where Donkeylips takes Dina out to the camp dance.
I vaguely remember some others, but they're not really worth mentioning. I must say, the casting job was pretty amazing. ZZ and Dina were by far the hottest characters, and who couldn't love that big ball of pudge, Donkeylips? Overall, this show provided two years of good clean fun, plus it sure beat the hell out of that travesty "Hey Dude".
Of course, everybody remembers Budnick's (Danny Cooksey) TV career. He played some pretty big roles as the voice of Montana Max (Tiny Toons Adventures), and Urchin (The Little Mermaid). And I'm sure some of you might remember Donkeylips' (Michael Bower) short-lived movie career. Starring in big-name movies like Captain Nuke And The Bomber Boys, Dude Where's My Car?, and Evolution, that boy had about as successful a career as Jean Claude Van Damme. Pity, really. I loved that kid.
The Maio-Meter says:
PLOT: 10/10
STYLE: 10/10
HUMOR: 10/10
OVERALL: A perfect 10/10!
We run, we jump, we swim and play. We row and go on trips
But the things that last forever are our dear friendships.
Camp Anawanna, we hold you in our hearts
And when we think about you it makes me wanna fart!
--"It's 'I hope we never part'
Now get it right or pay the price!"
Now we will share a lifetime of the fondest memories
By the lake of Anawanna set in the old pine trees
Camp Anawanna, we hold you in our hearts
And when we think about you (This thing came apart)
Think Anawanna. Speak Anawanna. Live Anawanna -- Ugh!

All of my friends keep referring to this show as "Camp Anawanna" because they've totally forgotten about most of the old Nick shows (Pete and Pete, Welcome Freshmen, You Can't Do That On Television, etc.)
My friend Antonio has most of the shows on his computer. He Kazaa'd them back in the day.

Even SYS had it's own nick precurser: the slimetastic, "You Can't Do That on Television." It was an SNl for the pimply faced masses of pre pubescent America--featuring dumb studio 54 lovin', disco despising, pop rocks poppin', classic coke drinkin', renegades of the 5th to 7th grades.
To this day, I remember a skit where a kid kept getting beatin' up by the big bad 8th graders. At the time, it made me nervous as I was just about to enter middle school. You can't beat nostalgia like that. No sir.

THIS WAS THE BEST SHOW EVER.
+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2
Only reason I'm not actually going to spam you with +2s is because you insulted Hey Dude, which was also a fucking awesome show.
And I was totally going to mention the wrestler episode (of SYS) but Sideburns beat me to it. What about the episode where everyone got poison oak and had to take oatmeal baths? It's even in the opening!!

Who could forget the episode where Sponge and Donkeylips try to lose/gain weight to join a wrestling competition so they can get a lobster dinner?
Or how about when Budnick played sick so he didn't have to go on a camp trip-- and his adventure in trying to get the icecream in that episode?
Or the episode where Gina(?) pretends to fall for Budnick and totally ruins his life and makes him change?
Or the episode where Donkeylips falls for Gina and asks her to a dance, and she thinks it's going to be terrible but ends up having a good time?
There's more I remember but I'm too lazy to type them out.

There is nobody here that cna say they didn't like this show. Everyone watched it because we didnt have anything better to do during the summer. And Ben Stiller's wife was the blonde on Hey Dude! That show was corny...wait, they all were.

Fucking awesome.
I hope that I am not the only one, but do you remember "Banana-Man"? I know that it came on Nickelodeon about the same time period as "Danger Mouse".
