Human beings have been fighting over resources since time began...whether it be over a river or a herd of wildebeast. The difference from then to now is oil is what makes the Western world go...nothing and I mean nothing would be the same for all of us in the west if it were not for oil. The gulf war was and is for oil and I, playing Devils advocate, see no problem in that. There is not enouggh resources in the world for all of us to live in the style we are used too. It sucks but I am glad I am on the winning team...well until China kicks everones ass.
I know this is not fair but if everyone was to live like me and I am not rich and I don't even have a car we would need 2.5 earths...that aint gonna happen so whos side would you rather be on?? The good times of plenty are coming to an end

Thanks for the warning folks. Did not realise that it was imolite to put out a lot of posts. Don't see the problem myself but fair enough.

Hidden: you can synthesize synthetic oils from hydrogenated carbon chains, with no oil used whatsoever. I realize you may not be versed in organic chemistry, but try not to be an idiot.
=================================================================
ummm.... re-read what you just said and think about it for a while. don't hurt yourself, though. no one ever said organic oil was used in the actual mixture, because if it was, then it wouldn't be synthetic oil now, would it? try to be less of an idiot. i'd explain further, but i'm not including in this discussion because you have nothing to contribute.

While trying to research synthetic oil, I found this:

Your arguements remind me of a scrotum without testicles.
Flappy and empty.

yes, we could limit our oil consumption drastically. i'm just saying, the need for the stuff that comes out of the ground isn't going away. to suggest that our reliance on oil is bullshit is an ignorant comment. i do agree that we could limit our need for it, but ultimately, we will always need it.

If America had spent the amount of money it spent on this war (Moblizing, feeding, training, paying troops, making weapons, deploying weapons, maintaining weapons, and generally killing brown people), on peak oil prevention research, maybe we would be a lot closer to an alternative energy source.
We will run out of oil eventually, so then what?
What you are saying is that the people on this earth should fight to the death, in the age of nuclear weapons, in order for their country to drive suv's, watch tivo, and cruise around on segway scooters.

"well guess what? the factories that produce that synthetic oil need organic oil to produce it. "
please elaborate. Why do they need organic oil to produce synthetic oil? To be honest, I don't know how synthetic oil is manufactured. But, when they say it doesn't use natural organic compounds, I tend to assume... that it doesn't use natural organic compounds.
Your right, there aren't too many products that don't use oil in the manufacturing process. But, I'm sure we could get by using synthetic oil and electricity. Your also right that electricity has to come from somewhere. But we have alternate energy sources, like nuclear plants, That require less oil to operate. These plants still need to oil their machinery, but we could use synthetic oil for that. So unless Synthethic oil requires rganic oil to be produced, I stand by my claim that our dependency on oil is bullshit.
And also let me elaborate. I didn't mean that when we could do without oil entirely, I meant we could limit our consumption to the point where we are no longer dependent on other countries to supply us. I typed my last reply hastily, and what I said wasn't exactly what I meant.

Actually, there are synthetic oils that use no natural organic compounds.

oh, and electric powered cars need oil, too. they still have moving parts. you also need oil for the means to charge the car. electricity doesn't magically appear from thin air.

This reliance on oil is bullshit. How hard do you think it would really be to make electric powered cars? It's not in the best interest of the people controlling America to make the switch. That is the only reason it hasn't happened.
============================================================================
dumbass. oil is about the most important thing in the world now. think about all of the things that oil makes possible. oil was needed just for you to use the computer you are using right now, and lots of it. unless you are Ted Nugent, you can't eat without oil (petrol-based, not olive oil. mmmmm... olive oil...). there are not many things that you as a consumer consume that don't rely on oil. in fact, i challenge you to come up with some things. you MIGHT be able to come up with a couple. MAYBE.

Giving a -2 for multiple posting? How about stop reading the posts?
Rate the post, not the user.

Multiple postings in a short span is annoying. Multiple posts in a short span that all suck is more so.
Stop sucking and stop posting.

As a fellow Scotsman and newcomer,
you should know that multiple posting per day is a bad idea.
You get pulled off the front page.
That, and everyone hates you.
