Dear America
Let's start this off on the right note:
I'm not bashing America - in fact the opposite. Having being reading this site for a number of weeks now, any posts or messages relating to bring down America's name, slagging it off or just making ill-informed remarks brings about a swift and ferocious response. You seem to be fiercely proud of your country despite (or perhaps because of) recent events in the world (that i'm not going to into). The recent 9/11 post shows just how patriotic you all are: "I'm American, I love my country, fuck you!" And rightly so.
Being from a little country called Wales, attached to the side of the arse-pit known as England, I can't imagine what it would be like to be from the country that practically drives the worlds economy. I am fiercely proud of my country, language, culture and heritage, it's beautiful scenery, people, rain etc but it is still insignificant in the world's eye. If I had the choice of nationality at birth, I would still choose Welsh.
I just want to know what inspires this patriotism in you all. Having never been to the land of opportunity myself, i've only got what the papers, movies and tv show me, and most of that is either Bush bashing news or crap off TV like Dawsons Creek and The OC. I know people who've been there:
"I can't describe it - it's amazing" - that's a load of big, fucking use.
I know people from there - generally some of the warmest, most down-to-earth people I have had the pleasure of meeting.
So where's all this hostility to your people coming from?
I personally beleive that Bush and his administration made the wrong choice in going to Iraq - that's just my personal opinion and it in no way influences my feelings towards the people of your nation. Instead of a lot of the world's press going to town on the culprits (hands up Rumsfeld) it seems to focus it's energies on the entire population AND then complain that America is becoming more insular and not giving a shit about anyone else.
So despite the world calling your leader a war-mongering toss-piece, despite the fact you're portrayed as overweight, trigger happy, retarded rednecks, you can still soak it up and give the world the finger.
So in conclusion, what makes you sit up and think:
"I'm American - fucking yeah!"

There is actually a documentary going out on the BBC that is called "the united empire of america" or something like that. I fully agree that the USA is the new 21st century British empire, but rather than having territorial colonies bringing in money via tax, you have the global corporations bring in money via products. E.g. Nike and Levi factories in the far east, the global proliferation of McDonalds (South Wales has the highest number of Maccy D's per person - fact!)etc etc.
We know from history that empires eventually collapse and what with the current resentment in the world towards America, that could be coming your way. Hopefully not too soon though - if America falls then the UK will go down with it and i've still got plenty of shit to do before that happens

Yours are valid questions!
First, I would like answer the question of why so many hate us and perhaps, as a seemingly unhappy subject of Great Britain, you will be able to understand this.
After WWI, it became what is now known as politically incorrect to openly admit to things like colonialism and imperialism. This is because it was determined that these things were the cause of that war. Both before and after that time, the United States has been involved in those very things. However, we cannot call it by those names.
Political scientists call what we do now "Informal Imperialism." We are very good at it. In fact, at this moment, we are probably the best at it if one considers success as being the ability to wield power over others. We learned our lessons well from Great Britain, whose empire once covered the globe. However, just as the Britons had to be thrown out of most of their colonies, we have also engendered unpopularity and, yes, hatred. I see a lot of similarity in attitude between late nineteenth century GB and the early twenty-first century USA and I predict that our fate will eventually be similar in that we will have to accept that people hate us and want us out of their countries and that our sphere of influence in the world will be much smaller due to our cavalier attitudes and behavior.
Why do I love my country? I guess I love it for the same reasons that most people love their countries. It is a place of great natural beauty as well as a place of engineering marvels, etc. We have a lot of work left to do in our society, but I like the fact that we are a nation of Law, I am proud of our Revolutionary heritage and I feel that our philosophical tradition (pragmatism), if somewhat limited at present, shows great promise.
I guess that is about as clear as mud but it's my answer and I'm sticking to it!

NOt sure America had freedom of speech first but since I don't know enough about that I won't say any more.
As for general freedoms, I do think Britons have more.
America seems to be far more religious and puritan than britain allowing us to hear people say cunt on terrestial tv and also see naked flesh. If janet showed a titty at the fa cup the media would find it hilarious and people would laugh, this is in stark contrast to what happened at the superbowl.
I do like america though, apart from yankee fans."

In the UK, you can't sell porno mags with penetration or the money shot. I don't see that or being able to say cunt any real limitation on anyone's freedom of speech, just a limit on what is decent public behavior. If anything England is more conservative becasue it is telling you as an adult what you can look at in your own home.
A couple people have mentioned it, but you are probably going to be proud of any contry you are from and grew up in, so what is so special baout the US? Nevermind the economy, or military. Look at everything there is to do in America. You can go to tropical beaches, see desserts, go skiing, ice skating, virtually any type of outdoor activity you can think of is possible in the US. That isn't the only thing I love, the list is too long, but it something people often overlook, especially when they wonder why more Americans don't travel outside the US (that and an overseas flight from the US is very expensive).

It doesn't matter where you're from. If I was Canadian, I'd be all about Canada. I was born in America, my standard of living is high, its a no brainer.
I hate people who are a part of something (highschool, a sports team, whatever) and they don't dedicate themselves to it. You have to make the best out of what you have--I was born American so I'm proud of it.
If I was born with a 10 inch cock, I'd be proud of it.
How often would someone wake up in America and say "aww shit. I am going to eat three meals again today, and whear comfortable shoes too! This shit sucks, fuck America!"
You should be equally proud of being Welsch as I am of having a 10 inch cock. . . err I mean of being American.

I can protest that which I disagree with. I can go to a baseball game in summer. If the government ceases to work for me, I have the right to overthrow it. Every 4 years, my vote counts in deciding who will lead the country in which I live. Fireworks are an important part of the celebration of my country. My right to vote is protected by the very fabric of the government, and it explicitly says that no one can take it away from me. I, as a woman, can dress as conservative or as skimpily as I want. While I am proud of my country as a whole, I am also proud of my own regional and state heritage. My country is less a single entity and more of a group of 51 separate governments working in harmony.
Want to keep going?

But I do love this country also because free speach and all the other things that may be commonplace in modern society but happened here first. I do however think that some of the great things I personally love about this country are going to eventually become the demise of this country. We've exercised our freedoms to the extent that we've become lazy, and (some of us) bordering on ignorant. People seem to be comfortable with "good enough" and "getting by" that we take so much for granted. Once leaders in fields like technology, the rest of the world is catching up (and in some cases passed us) and we're on our couches drinking our Cokes and eating our Big Macs while we watch whatever product that's being shoved down our throats.

Well, for starters, for reasons that I like *living* in America, refer to the following post. http://www.ubersite.com/m/34334
Now that I'm done hitwhoring, to specifically answer your question, I can't say that I'm patriotic in the way that I think America is better than anywhere else. It's kind of like in sports. I'm a Cleveland fan, because I'm originally from Cleveland. I love the Browns, the Indians and I can finally say I love the Cavs without it being followed by roaring laughter. But it's not because I think Cleveland is the best city on earth (although I loved it there, except for the weather) it's because that's where I'm from, and I'm loyal. It's my home town, and America is my home as well. That's not to say I wouldn't want to live in another country someday and experience different things, but I'll always come back. I equate the commradary after 9/11 to fans at a sold out football game or any sport for that matter. People rallying around a common goal.

You'd still choose to be Welsh?
You mean England junior?
What country supplied a lot of archers to england when they fought scotland?
Wales.
You're a bunch of fucking sell outs that pretends they hate the english when they are actually sucking their cocks the whole time.
You cunts didn't even vote for full devolution.
Fucking english wannabes.
There's only one good thing to come out of wales - Dylan Thomas.
As for america, say what you want about them but I love their patriotism.
