"Summertime
And the living is easy
Fish are jumpin'
And the cotton is high"
So I am sitting out on the deck today because it's a beautiful day and I've worked totally too hard during my vacation this week. The sun was brilliant today and even though it wasn't really hot out, it wasn't too cool either. I was looking out over the valley and thinking "what a nice place to live. All was right in my world.
"Oh, your daddy's rich
And your mama's good lookin'
So hush little baby now
don't you cry"
I walked around the deck and took in the sight of my front yard. 90 percent of the time I hate the way my front yard looks. The reason for that is it's usually covered in snow, but that's another story for another day.
My wife works pretty hard on her flowers and today her hard work was paying off. Don't ask me what kind of flowers she plants because I only know the names of some of them. She started maintaining our garden in earnest after her grandfather died. He had some of the nicest flowers growing in his personal garden and she used to go maintain them for him. After he died, she transplanted some of his flowers to our own garden as kind of a memorial for him or something. I'm not emotional that way, but she is and I enjoy the garden. She is always saying something about how Grandpa's presence is in the flowers because of how they thrive. I can't argue with her, these flowers thrive more than anything else we've ever had in our garden.
"One of these mornin's
You're gonna rise up singin'
Then you'll spread your wings
And take to the sky"
I want to tell you about some of the things that I saw in the frontyard today as I rounded the corner of the deck. My son Christopher was running around under the new Spiderman sprinkler we purchased for him today. It's amazing what a four year old does for your perspective. When you can watch a child run around under a simple sprinkler for an hour and see how much he enjoys himself, it takes most of your problems away. It's simple. Joy is so much more powerful than despair.
We have a frog in our front garden that is an absolute mutant. It's battery operated and whenever it senses movement it goes "Ribbit, Ribbit" at about 100 decibels. This is the brainchild of my other two children who have warped senses of humor. I wasn't aware of the frogs presence up until 3 days ago when I came home at one thirty A.M. after a night of card playing. I was walking by the garden heading for the front door and I hear the "Ribbit, Ribbit" of a frog gone mad. I nearly jumped out of my skin. The damn thing is as big as a basketball. Christopher was running around it today and it was going off madly. He was giggling the whole time.
Our garden has a variety of flowers which are almost all in bloom. The irises are huge in purple, blue, white and pink. The Peony's flower in white and pink and are bigger than a twelve inch softball when in bloom. She also has four or five others which I don't know the names of. The garden is rather nice though and on a summer day it is strikingly beautiful.
"But til that mornin'
Ain't nothin' can harm you
With your daddy
And your mammy
standin' by"
The whole "Summertime" thing? Well, it's the song I had rolling around in my head today as I was enjoying the beautiful weather. I hope you all have a great summer.
This pic is of a moth that is hanging around outside my door right now. The coin is a quarter and will give you some perspective on how huge this damn thing is.

Addressing your questions and comments.
First of all, I am not sure if it is a luna moth or not but I believe that it is. We get bigger ones than that and they are dark brown. They look just like living leaves. I went outside to have a smoke and I turned around to come in and saw this thing affixed to my wall by the light. I thought this one was great because of it's bright green color.
Second, I am not sure if I am a patronizing asshole or not, but that is one COOL moth. You are right.
Third, This is N.Y. State. We live Upstate near Syracuse and we are out in the middle of the country. Lots of woods and lilac bushes etc, etc. Lots of nature.

You know you have one or have thought about it.

I saw the title and thought "Wow, even if this post was a dud, I love that song!"
And then I read it and the song was there!
And it was awesome.

Don't let the date on the pic fool you. It reset itself on the camera when the batteries died one day.
