It was revolutionary to the animation industry. It was hilarious. It sparked a style of cartooning never seen before. It was refreshingly disgusting.
Yes, ladies and gents, I'm talking about Ren And Stimpy, the greatest cartoon to ever hit Nickelodeon EVER.
OVERVIEW: An ambiguously gay couple- a tenacious chihuahua (Ren) and an oafish cat (Stimpy)- go through bizarre situations together, and will do anything for five bucks.
Everybody remembers the classics:
Space Madness
In The Army
Rubber Nipple Salesmen
Maddog Hoek
Stimpy's Invention
I mean, the list can go on forever. I think my alltime favorite, however, had to be Stimpy's Cartoon. If you haven't seen it, download it or something. Get the Ren And Stimpy DVD, I don't care how you do it. You will laugh your ass off. From this episode came such classic lines like:
"Hello Poopy. Will you pick my nose?"
"Shhhhh.... the walls have teeth!"
"Rain? In Octember?"
"Now we're in an airplane!"
"I have to throw up now, Poopy."
"Ha ha ha, I'm going to get you yet!!"
Fucking classic. It was a tragedy when the show was cancelled. I was shocked to learn that Nickelodeon refused to give John Kricfalusi, the creator of Ren And Stimpy as well as the voice of Ren, a raise. He then decided to quit the show, and Nickelodeon tried to go on without him, which subsequently lead to the show being cancelled. My heart was broken.
I'm sure some of you heard that Spike TV tried to revive the series along with John K's career. I never saw any of them, but I hear they were exceptionally disgusting. I'm also pretty sure that it didn't last too long on the airwaves.
Whatever the case may be, Ren And Stimpy will always have a place in my heart. Nobody can forget the entertainment of watching Ren and the Nerve Ending Fairy, or the antics of Jimminy Lummox. In closing, let us sing a few songs together:

And again, because I bought the Ren & Stimpy Beach Bikini DVD. It's basically the artist doing all kinds of naughty things he couldn't get away with on TV.

+2 for the greatest show of all time. My favorite Ren and Stimpy Scene:
"STIMPY: I'll turn off the gravity. It'll help you relax.
REN: What a pal. Ahhh. This is the good life. Just relax... and let my mind drift.
(Ren and water float out of the tub together) Yeahhhh. I'll just relax, and think pleasant thoughts... Chicken pot pie!... Chocolate-covered raisins!... Ehh... Glazed ham!...
(Ren drifts around the room.) Heh... heh... heh... they think I'm CRAZY. But I know better. It is not *I* who am crazy. It is I who am MAD! Didn'tcha hear 'em? Didn'tcha see the CROWDS?
(Ren holds up bar of soap) Oh, my beloved ice cream bar... how I love to lick your creamy center! HOOOWWWWWW... (bites soap) ... and your oh-so-nutty chocolate covering! You're not like the others... you like the same things I do! Waxed paper... boiled football leather... dogbreath... We're not hitchhiking anymore! We're RIDING!
STIMPY: Stop it! You're talking crazy!
REN: (suddenly paranoid) Oh, no. I know what YOU want. You coveteth my ICE CREAM BAR!
STIMPY: C'mon now...
REN: No, you don't! You can't take it from me now. I've had this ice cream bar since I was a CHILD! People... always trying to take it from me! Why won't they LEAVE ME ALOOOOONNNNE?
STIMPY: Easy, now.
REN: Back off, man! (grabs toothbrush) Don't make me use this! One step closer, I'm WARNING ya! Don't make me use it! (Stimpy steps closer) NOW you've done it. YOU FORCED ME TO USE IT!
(horrible sound as Ren brushes his teeth. They struggle. Ren loses.)
REN: Eeee... eh... I'm hurting. (collapses)
STIMPY: You poor crazy kid!"

My mom for a long time didn't let me or my sister watch that show but I saw it a few times at friends' houses. I liked it, I think. +2 anyway.

Alright Matt, I'll give you the +2 becuase you had a quote that was his, AND because I never was sure if Ren was supposed to be a dog until after it was cancelled. I think a few of my favorite episodes had to do with Dr. Stupid, where Stimpy would go out and find 'animals' to talk about. My favorite was the "Razor-Sharp Gummed Geezer."

First off, I don't think Ren & Stimpy is half as funny as I used to. Secondly, I get that "Will you pick my nose now, Poopie?" phrase stuck in my head all of the time. Third, the video games for NES were fucking awesome, but they were too hard. Fourth, you didn't mention Wilber Cobb. He was the greatest thing that ever happened to the show. His ears and nose would start sliding off his face for no reason. Oh, and finally, I thought Angry Beavers was the best cartoon to hit Nickelodeon.

I would not be who I am today without a righteous upbringing of Ren and Stimpy.
I remember in camp, we would sing Happy Happy Joy Joy and the counselors got pissed off at us. Good times. Thank you for helping me reminisce.

I listen to that song all the time.
My favorite was the crazy baboon who would attack Ren at the most retarded times while Ren screamed. It was fucking hilarious.
