Do you know what sucks? Religion. Not necessarily the belief in God/Allah/whatever, but the way people use it to try to gain power and control others. Whether it's in the middle east or in the good old USA, organized religion is pretty much the source of all evil.
Most wars can be traced back to religious disputes, or at least nationalistic disputes that have different religious beliefs at the source. Terrorism tends to be faith-based. Even US politics has divisive debates over abortion and gay marriage, with the opposition typically coming from religious organizations.
For those of you who worship regularly, I mean no offence (even though I probably offended the hell out of you). But stop and think about it for a moment. Do you think God really wants you to get on your knees and grovel once a week? Give his priests money? Tell him you're not worthy? Do you really think you are going to hell if you use a condom?
I think religious leaders over the years just made up most of the traditions and practices of their churches in order to control people. So if you're going to break the condom rule and the sex before marriage rule, why not go all the way and forget about the church too. Stop all of the dogmatic rituals and traditions. Live your life, be a good person, help others and every once in a while look up at the sky and thank the big man/woman/whatever that you're alive. Think for yourself instead of blindly following faith prescribed by others.
Maybe then people would stop reading way to much into a stupid book and then go around killing other people:

It's funny how "holy wars" have been, and still are, declared and fought
in the name of someone's god. I'm no theologist, but don't most (although
I realize not all) religions condemn murder? I guess it's okay if you
only kill those who don't agree with you. Wow, sounds like Bush.
"So, without religion, man becomes an animal. Driven by only his desire to
kill and fuck." Sorry man, I surpress the desire to kill on a daily basis,
but that has nothing to do with the fact that I had organized religion force
fed to me for nineteen years. And the fucking....gotta stay warm some how in
Canadia.

Wrong. Morals don't come from religion. If that were true than Atheists wouldn't have morals, neither would Agnostics. Morals come from a persons sense of empathy. I don't want to hurt you because I know what it's like to be hurt. Also Rules are laid down by the law to keep society functioning. While it is true that here in America most of our laws are based on Christianity, There are many laws that have nothing to do with religion. The bible doesn't forbid owning slaves for example. Also, rules in the bible (Keeping the sabbath, not eating animals that are cloven of the hoof, etc) are left out of the laws of the land. Religion does not equal morals.
The post itself was alright, nothing too striking or original. Although I wouldn't be surprised to see it make most heated.

I agree. I don't think people need to believe in a higher being to have morals. Having morals just comes from a kind heart, I don't think its a gift from above. And I also agree with what you said about wars...I would say that without religious conflict, the wars of the world couldve been counted on one hand. Just my opinion.

Actually, I would argue that religion does a pretty damn good job of driving people to kill. So without religion we'd just fuck, which somehow doesn't strike me as a bad thing.

You are a dumbfuqing asshat! without religion, though it has caused some serious problems throughout history, the world would be in total shambles. Ever hear of morals and having a conscience. These things stem from wanting to be good to be able to live a happier life, and more often than not, get into heaven. So, without religion, man becomes an animal. Driven by only his desire to kill and fuck. The world goes to hell. Good call. gayzor.
