"The commission investigating the 11 September 2001 attacks on the US has found no "credible evidence" that Iraq helped al-Qaeda carry them out.
The statement was published before the bipartisan commission began the final two-day public session.
It contradicts Monday's remarks by the US vice-president about Saddam Hussein "long-established ties" with al-Qaeda.
Iraq's alleged links with al-Qaeda were part of the justification the Bush administration gave for invading Iraq."

So there's no weapons of mass destruction, heavy resistance to attempts to install a democracy and now absolutely no evidence linking Saddam with al-Qaeda.
Can anyone say oil?

If they did it for the oil, they'd certainly be looking pretty stupid right now.
I don't expect bush had very honorable reasons for iraq, but I'm reasonably sure that Blair
was doing it for the right reasons.
Twat that he is, he really tries to do the right thing.
Someone said that the 1 million march wasn't so big, I disagree.
The march was the biggest (by a long way) gatherinbg of people for one reason in britains history.
The biggest ever.
No other protest or demonstration, no battle or carnival, not the peasant revolution nor the
1966 or 2003 world cup win, has ever gathered anywhere near as many people in one place for one reason. And that was just in london.
The protest was HUGE.
I think the war was done badly, but I'd rather it had been done this way than not at all.

With great power, comes great respondsibility. Ask yourself one thing?....Where would Iraq be right now had we not invaded?.....How safe would the world have been if things were left alone?....Should we place Saddam back into power there?......Come on people....He was the crazy old man down the block taking pop shots out of his window with a gun...and FINALLY.......someone called the cops on his dangerous ass and the neighborhood is now safer......?.sorry for the buzzed typing......demerol is awesome

Fuck the UN. Just because they don't back something up, doesn't mean they're right. Look at the genocides in Rwanda; Clinton wanted to go in and do something, but the UN didn't have the backbone to stop it, so the killing continued.

Because companies like Halliburton are getting exclusive contracts and ripping off our soldiers and making billions of dollars. The average american Joe ain't going to see shit benefits from this war, only Dick and his friends benefit.

There was at the time, and still is here in the UK a lot of bad feeling about the war. Unfortunately, with Blair so far up Bush's arse, public opinion didn't get taken into consideration. But then that's Labour all over.
What I find most disturbing is the way that B&B completely over-rode the democracy of the UN because it didn't like what they were saying. Isn't that a dangerous precedent, no matter what your view on the war?

ONE MILLION people, myself included (that's one million of a population of just under 60 million, so a pretty high percentage of the population, and that doesn't include those who couldn't make it there) protested in the streets of London to try and prevent the war going ahead (or at least the UK's support of it)
------------------------------------------
1 million out of 60 million is 1.67 percent of the population.
Since when is 1.67 percent a "pretty high percentage."

because of non-existent WMD's. Our President lied, and he's still in office. American soldiers and Iraqi's (soldiers and civilians) die everyday because of this. W is still in office. He lied.
Clinton lied about a Blowjob and got impeached...go figure.
-------------------------------
I have stayed out of this battle for long enough. Saddam was involved with Bin Laden, they were "enemies" but they joined for the "greater good". Most of the WMD were moved before/during the invasion. Clinton lied directly about something he did and knew everything about. Just say Bush was wrong about the WMD but how could he know entirely about it he wasn't there doing it, Clinton was he got a BJ (no crime) but lied. Totally different, CLinton was a liar, Bush may or may not be but how can anyone know 100%.

I am British and the only reason the UK invaded Iraq is coz Blair is Bush's lapdog. ONE MILLION people, myself included (that's one million of a population of just under 60 million, so a pretty high percentage of the population, and that doesn't include those who couldn't make it there) protested in the streets of London to try and prevent the war going ahead (or at least the UK's support of it). They went to war based on no evidence, and US soldiers wonder why they are hated, after all the people they have killed, lives they have ruined and buildings they have destroyed (many "by accident" - how stupid can you get? don't bomb anywhere near schools/hospitals/civilians! and definitely don't shoot your own men!). The British government are constantly going against the British public's wishes/demands/desires etc. Let's hope soon Iraqis can enjoy living in their own country. I'm not saying they had a great time under Saddam, they definitely didn't, but the war has cost so much more than other options.

+2 for that; otherwise, I tire of this argument. You'll never convince the partisan zealots that "proof" and "evidence" have quite distinct meanings. I'm perfectly willing to accept that this conflict was to some extent justified in the event of evidence being uncovered, but for that I'd need to see a cache of the weapons-grade plutonium isotope, a substantial quantity of sarin, ricin et al, or missiles specifically adapted to deliver such payloads - a substantial quantity of scap metal, as reported by the World tribune, doesn't really cut it for me.

I love the arguments... "Well a judge in the US said... blah blah blah" would you take it at such face value if the equivilant of a judge on Iraqi soil had found out the oposite? No, you know why? Because it would be truth instead of a lie that you could live with.
If WMD's were so fickin' commonplace in Iraq there would be no discussion about this. It would be public knowledge & Good ol' Satan Bush would be a hero to the American public. But lets face it.... Iraq was INVADED on the word of a religious madman. In the end they are trading one regime for another that just does a better job at hiding their evil little faces.
Sorry for the rambling but I am high on codine right now. I hope this makes sense.

"how much are you paying per litre for gas?"
Prices have risen recently, that's true, but this is a short term situation. Gas prices will fall within the year.
that is only because of the saudis deal to increase production thus dropping prices.
nothing to do with the oil in iraq.

Also, while gas here (Delaware) is at an average of $2.07/gallon, gas in Iraq is $0.04/gallon.
====================================================
I hate statistics like that. People in Delaware probably make an average of 20-30,000 dollars per year per capita while Iraqis probably make an average of 500-1,000 per year per capita. Who knows, probably even less. It's called the standard of living.

----------------------------------------
The World Tribune is about a step and a half below the Weekly World News and National Enquirer when it comes to journalistic integrity.
"Weapons of mass destruction COMPONENTS" includes things like scrap metal.
Meetings between Hussein and Al Qaeda aide-de-camps did indeed take place, but nothing ever came of them because the two parties viewed each other as ultimately a threat to their respective ideologies (Hussein's was a SECULAR dictatorship).
Al Qaeda is indeed running around all over Iraq now, because we ousted Hussein and created a power vacuum, which MANY anti-American groups in addition to Al Qaeda rushed in to fill (which the first President Bush predicted and cited as one of the numerous reasons removing Hussein from power was a bad idea.)

"Funny. A US judge has ruled that Iraq was directly connected to the events of Semptember 11, 2001 and has issued a judgement against Iraq for their involvement"
The fact that you added the word US before the word Judge at least encourages me that you might at least realise that most people wouldn't be taking his opinion to mean anything.
I think I'll take the views of the commission that has been investigating for many months now over the views of a US judge, if that's all the same to you. If you think the judge is the more credible source...good luck to you, sir.

Oh, and one more thing SSS. If there was "heavy" resistance (aka majority) to democracy, we wouldn't be able to stay in Iraq. There are not enough troops to pacify an entire nation, plain and simple. Most Iraqis, as it has been consistently shown, are supportive of our efforts, they just want the freaking power back on.

Funny. A US judge has ruled that Iraq was directly connected to the events of Semptember 11, 2001 and has issued a judgement against Iraq for their involvement. You have Czech intelligence swearing under oath about a meeting between Iraqis and Mohammed Atta (you heard of him, right?). You have Al-Qaeda swarming about a country that supposedly has NO connection to Bin Laden.
Come on SSS, you're smarter than that. Throw the conspiracy theorist books in the trash, look at real facts.
