There have been a lot of comments about plagiarism lately and one person said something kind of interesting. They said that everything anyone says is plagiarism. At first I though man that person is a dumb ass, but then I thought about it. Everything has been said. You could go through every one of these posts and find things that someone else has said. It may not be posted on the internet and it may not be a lot of it, it may only be one sentence, but it's still there.

Even the people who say "That's plagiarism" yeah well so was what you just said, and so was what I just said. Even this thought was probably thought or even written down by another. I'm not saying its okay to copy and paste things from other sites and post them here. I'm just saying that you should take the time to think about it sometime. It is pretty mind-boggling if you really get into it.

Anyway, to end this, here's a pretty picture.

When I said everything has been done I don't mean just on this site. I mean in the world in general. Someone has probably had those same ideas.

Everything's been done?

Fuck that. I challenge you to fine one post where people:

- rub two cats together to see if they spark

- have their next door neighbor's two-year-old daughter wanting to kill them

- got hit in the face with a water bottle by the asshole lead singer of Blink 182

- talked to Shakespeare quoting Spiders in their kitchen

My shit is original because it comes from the heart... or the anus. Whatever, it's original nonetheless.

Taking someone elses words and claiming them to be your own is plagiarism. For exampl, lets say I had a thought (yea right, like I get those): "plagarism is taking something word for word". so I type out "plagiarism is takingsomething word for word". I didn't plagiarize. As thats a pretty generic statement it might have been stated before by someone else. But, because thats a pretty short and generic statement, people wouldn't proclaim it to be stolen.

now, lets say I have that same thought, but type out verbatim someting I've heard before, without giving credit: "When you lift something word-for-word, it's blatant plagiarism." I've stolen yoursoghey's Words. When you get into a whole posts worth of sentences the possibilie for coincidence becomes very slim.

Just to tell you I know the stingent definition of plagerisim. I'm talking about the in general, for lack of better words, flexable definition.

"When you lift something word-for-word, it's blatant plagiarism." -youarsoghey

That wasn't plagiarism, by the way.

Want to know the difference? Nobody has EVER, in the history of mankind, put together words in exactly this way:

It's extremely easy to be original when it comes to writing. Maybe not when it comes to ideas, but people generally don't hold it against you if you try to be original and write originally. When you lift something word-for-word, it's blatant plagiarism.

I'm only giving you a positive rating because I remember the regret I felt when calling out plagiarism just cause I liked the word. Otherwise, you have a point there that's worth reading.

Sort of.
