Pictured here on his very first day of kindergarten.
I've wanted to illustrate this shot for almost 2 years, and managed again to convince the powers that be/morons in management to let me illustrate another of our educational software magazine covers. So if anyone receives a catalog with this on the cover (only colorized) you can say "Hey, I know who drew that! Gosh darn golly, and she sure is a bitch! Wow!

my god, i love this. its brilliant on so many levels
i dunno what you were trying to do here, but you really capture the feeling of smallness? that you feel as a kid, and everything is so much bigger than you, everyone and everything looking down on you.
what makes this totally awesome is the bits that are so cartoonish within a realistic picture, its like that uneasiness where your looking at something thats real and fake at the same time. in particular that sign 'watch your step' printed out in like comic sans or something brings a whole other element....

In a way, yes. I get to do illustrations like this one for our catalog covers a "couple-few" times a year,
and when I was in software developement for 4 years I drew and animated on the computer, one example is a post I called "Drauring... but not on paper" or some brilliant title like that. My official work title is "Senior Graphic Artist" - I am not so sure I appreciate the "senior" part so much anymore... :-)
I get commisioned a couple times a year for portraits. I'll pretty much do anything, kids, pets, whatever...

I think the bag is why I found the photo so endearing. It's true-to-size, believe it or not.
He's so tiny, I just have to smile every time I look at his skinny little legs and his tiny hand on the top step.
It makes it so much more fun to draw people when you have a connection to them (this is my best friend's son).

I hate that my firewall at work blocks pictures. All I see is a hairline grey outline.
This is a courtesy +2, because I have no idea what I'm ranking ... but am taking those odds. Oh and because I thank god that this site wasn't firewalled or I'd be one very bored, hungover worker today.
