http://www.ubersite.com/m/36587 (For those of you who missed the last part)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As the two of them walked last mile to her neighborhood silently, Annie mulled over the events that occurred in the summer after Jason's disappearance. How three children could take it upon themselves to investigate such grisly murders and not end up victims themselves had always escaped her. But then, one of them had ended up a victim, finally. Maggie's death could not be a coincidence. She didn't believe any of this was a coincidence. She thought about her conversation with her father this morning. It seemed so long ago. Something had been off about it. She couldn't put her finger on it.

She stopped. An image of a corpse accosted her. Jason Curry, wrought in intimate detail in by her mind's eye. Illuminated by firelight, leaning against a stone wall. Arms shackled. Eyes open in a glazed look of abject terror. A vertical slit ran down the side of each cheek from the eyes, like the trail of a tear. The child had also been slit from sternum to groin; his insides gaped at her. Annie didn't have enough knowledge of anatomy to figure out what was missing.

"Are you ok?"

She rubbed her temples. "No."

"Come on, let's get you home."

As she had so many times before, Annie had the distinct feeling that something was watching her. Perhaps a man. Perhaps a beast. She realized now that this was why she had stayed away for so long. Being here put her mind in a morbid state. In the city, she had her problems, but a constant barrage grisly visions was not among them. Neither was this undeniable feeling of being constantly watched and evaluated by some unseen entity.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

She was back. Long years he had waited. But back she came. The killer had known all along. After all, were they not connected? She did not understand why, but she knew it as well as he did. As well as her own father did. And would that connection not be cemented before the final curtain fell? Of course it would. In the end, he would give her the choice. And she would either choose correctly, or he would kill her. He hoped that she would choose him. But if not, he would at least make her death one to remember.

His mind reached out like fingers and touched upon hers. She was dimly aware of it, and stopped. He fed her an image. He didn't always have to. Many of them she came up with, all on her own. She had been thinking about her father. What would she think of him if she knew his secret? The same secret the others kept. She would be angry, no doubt. But forgiving of her father. As callous as her nature had become, she had always been and would always be infinitely forgiving. All one needed to do was utter an apology, sincere or not. But if it came to that, then of course the father would have outlasted his usefulness, and could finally be discarded.

Right now, his pet was prowling about above ground, keeping tabs on young Annalee and her cohort. That man. The one he would most certainly kill before the end of it. But not yet. Time waits for no man, the saying went. But he was no man, and time would wait for him.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Patiently, patiently, the beast tracked the two humans from a distance. There were very few places in this human dwelling that were not within view of the woods. It would be easy to slaughter them both. Infinite patience. It was a trait it had learned from its master.
Eventually the beast would be allowed satisfaction. As of late, he had been denied quite often.

The beast knew the master had plans for the female. A long time ago the beast had wanted to kill her. That desire had waned over the years. Master saw this one as special. Eventually the beast began to see it, too. She had a certain... darkness, about her that the beast found appealing. A dark imagination. An ability to glimpse into the horrific and not only come out of it sane, to acclimate herself to it. She allowed it to become a part of her and in so doing gained the ability to deal with it logically. She didn't realize that she was doing it, but she was. The beast admired this quality. The longer she stayed, the more it would manifest itself. She had come a long way from that small girl that the beast had chased through the woods so many years ago. She was like the master, only on the opposite side of the moral spectrum.

As the two reached the house of the female, the beast turned away. Master was calling. He had plans for a new victim, it seemed. A young girl had wandered away from her mother at the nearby strip mall. The mother had apparently found her cellphone more interesting than her child's well being. A man had picked her up, meaning to do his own inferior version of the master's work, no doubt. But the child had escaped. She was running through the forest, due north, not two miles from here. The man was giving chase. With skill and luck, the beast would feast on the man and drag the girl back to the long deep hole in the ground before the hour was up.

GOD, I am so intrigued by this story. I can't wait for the next instalment. Just be careful you don't draw the suspense out for too long or you'll lose your audience.

Fantastic writing, keep it up.

Good stuff

You know, Moe, my mom once said something that really stuck with me. She
said, `Homer, you're a big disappointment,' and, God bless her soul, she
was really onto something.
