Who could forget this classic?

Actually, me. I never played this masterpiece until just a few months ago when I got an NES emulator. I know, I'm a disgrace to gamers everywhere, but I feel that I need to make up for it with this review.

Bomberman just kicks ass. All around, it destroys any sort of competition. My girlfriend actually likes to play video games, and when I threw this one on, she went nuts with it. Soon enough, she was always in my room playing it. Then I would kick her off and I would play it myself.

Oh, there was a power struggle. Many bruises have yet to heal because of that game. Was it worth it? God yes.

OVERVIEW: Blow shit up, kill the baddies, grab powerups, don't get hit.

The premise is so simple. At first I was like, "What the hell is this!?" But that eventually turned into, "I wanna play again". I just wish that my NES was still in working condition so that I could just go out, buy it, and play it for real. I'm missing out so bad.

I think that the simplicity was the best part about it. All you had to worry about was to not touch the badguys, or the explosion of your own bomb. And I bet it pissed you off something terrible when you trapped yourself with your own bomb, and you had to wait those extra seconds for the bomb to blow up. Oh man, every time that happened to me, I was ready to destroy something.

As far as plots go, this game didn't really need one. It was just fun as hell, and when you had enough of Bomberman, that was it. Done.

As for the rest of the Bomberman series, I really think that Bomberman 2 was the best. Bomberman 1 didn't really have too much to offer, but I think it really set the stage for the series overall. However, as the series progressed, I think that the game makers made it too complicated for what it was. You had all new and unusual powerups, and even creatures you could ride. Not a good move.

The Maio-Meter says:

GAMEPLAY: 10/10
MUSIC: 8/10
GRAPHICS: 8/10

OVERALL: 9/10

Play it for old-time's sake.

I love Bomberman.

I've recently been playing the newer versions for Gamecube, and it's a whole lot of fun.

However, I prefer Bomberman Generations over the newest Bomberman Jetters.
And I hang my head in shame in knowing that I never played the one for NES :(

+2 for classic videogames...

Matt, why don't you say something to make me start another flame war. This is getting boring. Heh.

All I know is that MegaBomberman for Sega Genesis is one of the best games ever. If Bomberman 2 is anything similar, then it kicks ass.

I just know THE bomberman for PC. It is THE multiplayer-2mankeyboard-2mankeypad at the same time game. I've been playing it for hours (like weeks in total gameplay time) and I am still not tired of it.

It's puzzling how the PC version of this game can take 500 megish of disk space. But at least you can copy the main directory and it works.

I just love it. Anyone knows how to get the game to work over internet? (There's this oldschool modem config)

Theres just one possible résumé for this game: Totally addicting from the first second on until you fall asleep. And the next few days you just wanna play again.

I love this game.

Super Bomberman 2 was the best one. The multiplayer level at the campground was fucking fun as hell, and had the coolest music.
