First post so I will keep it short.

The Cure 25 years old, over 20 Cds under their belts and arguably the finest band England have ever produced have released a new album.

The self-titled album is a back-to-form return from the masters of dark rock/pop and is possibly their best work since "Wish".

The album in itself has a very raw yet personal quality to it, Robert Smiths vocals are baren, stripped bare, and offset perfectly the wild background of sweeping guitar.
As with most of their albums the tone and pace of the album changes thoughout in a typical Cure fashion which most fans of the band would find reassuringly homely.

The highlights of the album would be "I dont know whats going on" (a definate single) and "alt.end" both of which are on par with songs like "Lullaby" and "Pictures Of You".

The Track Listing:

1. Lost
2. Labyrinth
3. Before Three
4. Truth Goodness and Beauty
5. The End Of The World
6. Anniversary
7. Us or Them
8. alt.end
9. I Don't Know What's Going On
10. Taking Off
11. Never
12. The Promise
13. Going Nowhere

To wrap up the album certainly ranks up with previous albums like "Disintergration", "Faith" and "Wish" old fans will find this album very easy to listen to. For new listeners it may take a couple of plays before you get into it, it's not as easy or catchy as "Friday Im In love".

If you like Rock/Pop you will not be dissapointed.

I'm not actually a goth nor do I wear makeup. Honest!

However if i did i would only wear the posh stuff so I imagine it would be fine and I would look splendid.

Robert Smith blows. He looks freakin' ridiculous with that haircut. After 20 years and 50 pounds you'd think he'd change his do. Even Metallica cut their hair. His style hasn't improved and neither has his growth as an artist.

The Axis was worse indeed. However, I'm wondering how far this coalition are willing to go to meet their objectives. I guess only time will tell. Let's hope for the best.

How's your makeup doing ?

Ahem. Yes I did indeed mean Vichy French.

You have a point about anglo-american thing as well, though at a very base level, however I would argue about the Axis being a lot worse.

It would appear that you are better than me.

Then simple logic (you being from Quebec) would suggest otherwise?

I'm still here because this conversation amuse me. I can leave if you ask, gently.
What is Viche, some spanish meal ?

If you meant Vichy, well, that is quite impossible since my ancestors and I come from Québec. That's right, I live under the rule of your ridiculous obsolete Queen. Which kinda pisses me off from time to time if I might add.

What's wrong with Vichy anyway ? It wasn't much worse than today's England collaborating with Americans.

13 British groups who are arguably* better than The Cure (in no particular order). One for each song on the album:

1. The Beatles
2. Led Zeppelin
3. Radiohead
4. Rolling Stones
5. The Who
6. Pink Floyd
7. Black Sabbath
8. Sex Pistols
9. Jethro Tull
10. Elvis Costello (Not a band, but he counts...cause I said so)
11. The Kinks
12. David Bowie (Once again, not a band)
13. Eric Clapton (Hey look, another one that isn't a band)

Hidden bonus Track: The Clash

*Arguing over which group is better is completely pointless.

Yes, The Cure, arguably the best British group ever? What a disgraceful statement. Although I don't think I will ever understand the whole fascination with Elvis Costello.

John Galt, you've got Clapton, where's Cream?

Yes, yes you are.

For someone who was objecting earlier that I was replying to comments on my post you're not helping your complaint.

Your ancestors were probably Viche French. That was intended as an insult.

By the way, the Marquis de Caulaincourt did a lot more thing than TheCure.
Like participating into bringing economic havoc onto your retarded island by taming Russia ha ha !
Well, it didn't much harm but maybe your great-great-great grand father was once short of cash because of the embargo and had to buy cabbage instead of cake and all your ancestors were sad for a night !

While The Cure only accomplished...sex between men, maybe ?

Conclusion ? I'm better than you.

If you don't want to read them, don't come back.

I couldn't care why you chose your user name i will simply assume its because your a French mincer just like the Marquis de Caulaincourt.

Are you gonna argue every single replies that slightly disapprove of this ?
Why do you bother posting at all if you can't deal with ratings ?

By the way, I like Indochine more than The Cure. THAT is gay.

I'm not a huge Cure fan, but Love Song is one of my alltime favorite "I dig this chick, so I'm going to make her a mixed tape . . . er . . . CD" songs. Sad to say it, but those new Hewlitt Packard commercials with Pictures of You playing has also had me feeling a bit Cure-ish lately (I'm such a sheep)

Anyway, I thought it was rather audacious of a band who had been arguably off its game in recent years to come out with a self-titled album after all this time. I tend to think of self-titled albums as sort of the "essential" sound of a band. Glad to hear that this one ranks up there with their best works. I might have to check it out.

Robert Smith is one of the most under-rated guitar player out there. He really should be ranked up there with Hendrix. That's my opinion. If you don't agree with me than you and everyone you know can go to hell. Jerk.

Good list John, the post was a review of the new album and not intended as a platform for debate on the best UK band.

Elvis Costello and The Attractions. Should count purely for Shipbuilding.

One small reason why The Cure should be acknowledged as one of the greats, Brandon Lee in The Crow running across the rooftops with Burn playing in the background. Awesome scene.

The Wildhearts should have been on your list.

Fag - Uk release was Monday 28th June.

I can't say it is as good as Disintergration but it's not far off, Their best work in a hell of a long time.

Stevo - Listen to the album first then argue away. It rocks.

I haven't heard it yet. When was/is it released? Oh, and ... if it's anything close to Disintegration then I'll be shocked. Aside from compilation CDs, in my opinion, they haven't released a comparable album since.

Nice review, good first post. Only comment is that bands, i.e., the Cure, are singular nouns.

Why? They're English, and they're one of the best, as in popular and record sales, bands ever.

My opinion, I stated "arguably". Whats there to get?
