I've been on Uber since Friday, and this will be my last post under this username. I may create a new username at some point. Who knows.
My feelings are mixed about the whole thing.
Uber is a great idea. Allowing people to get their thoughts and beliefs out there is a commendable thing. From the little I know about it, Bart Cilfone is the one who gave you this right. My problem with Uber is the young children that are abusing that right.
It's like going to a movie. You get all kinds of people, and you have no control over who's going to be there. My luck always places the idiot with the crackling bag of licorice directly behind me. The guy who can't stop yapping. The guy who saw this movie three times and keeps saying, "This part is awesome", or "Oh! Watch this." The guy who must have the worst case of worms in history because he kicks your chair at predictable intervals.
The guy who, no matter how many times you turn around, refuses to shut the fuck up. Some little children are just like that. They think it's cool. They think everyone wants to listen to their retarded little comments and their open-mouth chewing.
So, with my luck, I wasn't really surprised that when I came to Uber, it didn't take long for me to run into one of these little punks.
You know who they are. The little boys who talk tough behind their keyboards. No matter how many times you try to reason with them, they stick to their childishly aggressive behavior.
That's the price you pay when you allow 12 year olds on your site with the freedom to speak out. The cost is, for every one of those morons that logs on, you lose one logical adult. People who have a life beyond the computer. People who came on here to exchange ideas and read some creative writing.
With all his good intentions, Bart can't control the immature children who will inevitably ruin Uber. Every time someone tries to write something personal, or creative, another will come along and -2 it just for the fun of it.
I came to Uber to have a mature dialogue with other thinkers. I wrongly assumed that the young punks would stick to their stuff, and the people who wanted to exchange ideas and thoughts would be the people I'd meet. It didn't take long for me to realize that these people don't stick to their Photoshop edits of dildos and such. They are like a plague on Uber, spreading their stupidity wherever they go. You see, they have no life. It's summer vacation for these fucks, and they're taking full advantage. Some of us have jobs and a life; thus simply can't keep up with all their bullshit.
In my five days on Uber I've had death threats, been called every name under the sun, and had a ridiculous spam fight with an absolute moron who refuses to drop it and move on with his life. A fight which he lies about on his post, as if I was the only person involved. Of course, the predictable name calling is also present. There is no way I can post anything on here with any objectivity anymore. He, and his other little girls, will simply carry on with this pathetic façade.
The sad fact is, there are some really great people on uber. I'll continue to have a dialogue on my existing posts, if they are at an adult level. I'm not putting any new stuff up though...

Ubersite is the textual manifestation of the free-market enterprise. Anything and everything can be "put up for sale" here, and anyone can decide what a given post is worth. That decision can and will, in many cases, determine others' decisions. Social pressure and all that.
There is, has been, and will continue to be an unwritten, established heiarchy of sorts here. People who have been around here for a while generally are looked upon as knowing how things go down here more than those who have just arrived, just like a stock broker who's been in the game for years as opposed to a greenie just out of college.
There are many attempts at serious conversation and debate here. You just have to filter out the junk from immature people, old and young, who want to break it up.

These are three posts started by me with the intent of seriously discussing the topic.
I've posted a couple times about my desire to get a "philosophy" category going. But it's not happened, yet. But there are always people here who are up for a debate, and people who's attention spans or maturity won't allow them to benefit from such a discussion.

Hold on a minute there. This shows that you know nothing. I am the last person that Tom would see as an idol. If you had actually a miniscule amount of sense you would know that Tom and I do not get along very well. If Tom is giving you a -2, it is not because he is supporter of mine. But, the fact that Tom didn't say "Yeah, ban Fetish!" means that Tom is a better person then what I had him pegged for.

There is a serious tone of "I am superior to all of you" in this post that is pissing me off. Where the hell do you get the authority, insight, or experience to claim what Uber should or should not be? If you truly have such a problem with Unber, I can understand, but there is no need for a shit-filled post proclaiming your grand exit. Get over yourself and just go. You won't be missed, and neither will your classy and high-brow writing that happened to get panned by some faceless email address.
Don't come to a place like Ubersite for personal validation. If you are that insecure, have some type of free web journal that only your friends can visit and write nice things.

A solid zero. This post was well written. The analogy of a movie theater was good, although Uber, practically by definition, is like a common room in a school or workplace, or wherever. It's a mixing pot of people.
However, the outcome of -and I'm believing your story here- meeting all these punks etc is rather stupid. If you didn't care about Uber you wouldn't have posted a post about why you're leaving. If you cared you'd do what all the other regulars do: stick around, parry the blows from the arseholes, learn to spot the talent, be helpful to new users with potential.*
It's a shame. From this post at least you seem like a reasonably intelligent person.

hey, I agree with you. It just isn't my scene. Those kids in the theatre have thier place. I don't go to the theater as a result. I enjoy a good debate. There are some here on Uber.
Me and immature kids don't mix. There are just too many on this site. I think I'll stick to the BLOGS of people who don't find it funny when you resort to Grade 8 name calling.
You don't find too many "Cocksucker" comments on Chomsky's blog.
I just don't have the patience to sift through twenty of these retarded comments to get to the one rational human being.

I don't really know how to rate this. You do make some good points but I don't think you should quit. I'm new to Uber as a writer, as I have only put up a few posts. You need to understand that for everything you say and do, there is someone out there who either thinks it's boring or doesn't agree with you. And in the electronic age, they have the right to tell you so. You gotta roll with the punches. If you put up a post and people don't like it, kick your brain in gear and try again. Mix it up. See what happens.

Every person who has come to Uber has written a post like this. Hell, I've done it. Everyone writes their own "Farewell Uber, I appreciate those who were adults, but the children are too much for me" address.
But the fact is this. Uber has a lot of incredibly intelligent people on it. There are a lot of really talented writers. There are a lot of really funny story tellers. And those people are wonderful. They make Uber a great place to kill time, make friends, reach out into the void and connect with people.
And then there are flamers and assholes. The children. The three-word posters. The hate-filled teenagers who come here to piss people off. They come and -2 your perfect score. They give you the old "go kill yourself I raped your mother" routine. And yeah, they are annoying, even infuriating sometimes. I understand your frusteration.
But those people are part of what Uber is too. They are fun to flame, they give us a good laugh, they get to be the targets for our frusteration. They have their place here too.
That's the beauty of an open forum like this. There are no rules. You get the good and the bad. You get all kinds here. And the contrast keeps it interesting.
I watched the South Park movie today, and to quote Satan himself, "Without evil there would be no good, so it must be good to be evil sometimes."
Anyway, you can either leave because you're pissed, and frankly no one will miss you. With 1000+ users on a website, one person leaving doesn't even make a dent. So go if you want to, this may not be the place for you and that's fine.
Or you can stay and embrace Uber. All of it. The good and the bad. Because no matter what it is, at least Uber is never boring.
