FRANKFURT (AFP) - DVDs will be obsolete in 10 years at the latest, Microsoft boss and founder Bill Gates (news - web sites) predicted.
Asked what home entertainment would like in the future, Gates said that DVD technology would be "obsolete in 10 years at the latest. If you consider that nowadays we have to carry around film and music on little silver discs and stick them in the computer, it's ridiculous," Gates said in comments reproduced in German in the mass-circulation daily Bild.
"These things can scratch or simply get lost."
Gates' vision of television of the future was: "TV that will simply show what we want to see, when we want to see it. When we get home, the home computer will know who we are from our voice or our face. It will know what we want to watch, our favourite programmes, or what the kids shouldn't be allowed to see."
Wow. Bill Gate's concept is pretty impressive. A computer that knows you.
Technology is starting to scare the shit out of me. I know someday that some guy will create computers that can think and the world will end. The computers will act by themselves and screw us all over because almost everything in the world is some how involved with computers.
Time to load up the ol' shotty and go all out on technology.

Yeh, but since Bill Gates is American, I'm pretty sure he meant to say "programs."

Obviously some people haven't hear about Gates "art room"
I guess he has this room in his house where when you walk into it, a camara takes your picture. A computer scans your face and figures out who you are (you have to be entered into the computer first, of course), then it displays on the large plasma screens artwork that you like, and it starts playing music that you like in the background.
At least that's what I've heard..It would be possible.

Dude - the only problem with Gate's theory is that only HE will be able to afford it. I have a hard enough time comprehending why my printer doesn't print, nevermind it telling me "I'm afraid I can't do that, Tom.". This joke works best if you say the last line in quotes like HAL from 2001.

Biggest crock of shit I've ever heard.
#1, You dont just create a computer that can think for itself. It happeneds very slowly, and in small increments.
#2,If we noticed the computers intelligence was increasing to the point of jeopardizing our lives, dont you stink we would stop making them smarter?
sorry, but there is no matrix.

I think in the future, we should all adopt the same clothing.
"Okay everybody, we're going with the silver suit, with the V stripe on the chest, and the boots. That's the outfit."
I so stole that off seinfeld.

I think the future is going to be exactly like "I, Robot" even though I haven't seen that movie.
