I'm not much of a political poster. I'll even avoid posts that have anything to do politics. That being said, here we go!
Being 21, this coming election will be the first opportunity for me to vote. When I went to DMV to get my license renewed, the guy kindly asked if I was interested in registering to vote. Without even thinking about it twice, I said no. On the drive home I was wondering exactly why I made my decision as if I was programmed to think like that.
My parents have always voted every election year. It's not a problem of not having an example to follow. It's more like a problem of not believing anything that anyone says. If I were to make a decision right now, it would be purely based on TV commercials. I don't feel comfortable basing important decisions on propaganda. I just don't know who or what to trust. If I'm going to vote, I need a solid non-biased source. If there is anything out there like this, seriously, let me know.
I would like to know the statistics on what America base their vote on. Billboards? Commercials? Newspapers? Whatever it is, there can only be a certain percentage of voters that are actually well informed. Does it even matter if a vote is an informed one?
Is it worse to make a misinformed decision or not make a decision at all?
Another big reason is that I live in a state that gets 3 electoral votes. Three. Now, I know that last election was decided based on one state, but Florida has 25, which was enough to swing the election either way.
Delaware is not an important state. Bush and Kerry's campaign will never come to Delaware because they know that 3 votes is not worth their time.
Am I being lazy? Creating excuses so I don't have to drive 20 miles to pull a lever? Or do I have a basis behind my reasoning?

I hate how people claim the popular vote doesn't matter. It does. The popular vote in each state determines the electoral votes for that state. The electoral college has its pros and cons, but to claim the populare vote doesn't matter is false.
Disketor - how does you state only get two votes. Each state gets two electoral votes (for their two senators) plus the number of their Representatives in the House. At minimum, you should have three.
Bush was elected not appointed. Stop crying and grow up shitfuck. He isn't the first President to not win the the popular vote and still win the election. The democrats couldn't find a way around it, but they tried. That is the only reason it had to go to the courts.

I'm not all there so I consider myself to be a non-biased source. Vote for Kerry b/c Bush is an idiot who went to Yale because he's a legacy and has lot's of money and also fucked up our beautiful improved by Clinton economy. Also, the war in Iraq was for the election (However I do support our troops). GO AMERICA!!! woooooooooo

I was with cigar until all of the insults... he did made a good point.
I'm not voting until we get some candidates that actually take a stand on issues. If there was a candidate that actually did take a position on all the issues, and BELIEVED in what he said I'd vote for him regardless of whether or not I agreed with him.
I actually think that this country would get a nice kick in the ass if people stopped voting until such a candidate existed.

Good on ya! I love your reasoning, and I love your attitude. But if you ask me, whoever wins the vote, won't make things better than the next person. Everyone goes up there with the so called "best intentions" and gives crap all. You're never going to get unbiased opinions, so if your going to vote, go with gut instincs. Sounds cliche or maybe even stupid, but if it took u one second to say no to voting, it shouldnt be harder than that to make a second right choice. Politics is corrupt, propoganda is biased, and voting... well.. sorry to say, seems like a waste of time.

We vote based on past performance and what that performance indicates we can expect from our leaders in the future. Another prime factor is the people that leader employs. Are you happy that DICK Cheney is a self serving arrogant asshole? Or that Donald Rumsfeld is a liar and a war mongering nut? How about Ashcroft? Do you like the idea that he can look up your asshole with a flashlight anytime he wants to, legally?

I think you have a valid point about not making a decision based on biased advertising. However there is nothing stopping you from doing some unbiased research of your own.
In a country where voter apathy means that even a few votes can make a difference, you should really do some research and make a decision. In America, your vote really can make a difference. Get off you arse!

It seems like you're not voting because you don't have many electoral votes, but being lazy is probably why you're misinformed. There's no one source for all the information, but you can piece it together, if you really cared about who ran the country.

I live in Montana, we get 2 votes.
And no, it isn't worth it to vote as it doesn't matter who wins the popular election, only electoral votes count anyways.
