The top ten places to live in the world as compiled by UN's Human Development Report 2004. Ratings are compiled with factors such as life expectancy and education.
I am surprised in some ways to see it but yeah the US is better than the UK. well done wee bro!!
1 - Norway
2 - Sweden
3 - Australia
4 - Canada
5 - Netherlands
6 - Belgium
7 - Iceland
8 - US
9 - Japan
10 - Ireland
On a more serious not however, in Norway, a child born between 2000 and 2005 will have an average life expectancy of 78.9 years, whereas a child born in Zambia in the same period can expect to live just 32.4 years - a figure lower than that in 1960. This has been put down to the Aids epidemic sweeping across Africa. This to me is scary. A whole nation is being sent back to the dark ages. It can only make you think that eventually it will be the West's turn again.
Bottom of table. I bet there is no-one on here from these countries.
167 - Chad
168 - DR Congo
169 - Central African Republic
170 - Ethiopia
171 - Mozambique
172 - Guinea-Bissau
173 - Burundi
174 - Mali
175 - Burkina Faso
176 - Niger
177 - Sierra Leone
Anyway a little disjointed for a post but boss keeps looking this way.
Oh and the UK came 12th.

Despiadado, this has been going on for years - it's tied with Vancouver this year. There was a hooha about it a few months ago because it out ranked Sydney because Sydney is too hot and humid, on an international scale, Melbourne's weather is perceived better.
I chose to live in Melbourne becasue it kicks ass.

I am not suprised Norway is doing good, it is using all it's natural resources to give Norwegians an easier life instead of keeping its people living like sand people from starwars while the top people in the country become insanely rich(like the middle east). I am not sure about other industries but I know in oilfield work they get five weeks off for every four weeks they work, that is like having 55% of your days as vacation, that is unheard of in any other country for oil work. And the chicks are hot, those bastards.

Hey Hair, what makes you so sure Melbourne is the world's most livable city? The sign on your way into Brisbane says we're Australian's most livable city.
What the fuck does livable mean anyway?
Thanks for the update. Now when somebody asks were is it best to live, I can quote the UN. +2.

Agreed. They raped and pillaged the honorable land that is the American South.
Damn Lincoln. "Great Emancipator," my ass. How about "World's Most Highly Revered Mass Murderer?" He killed 600,000 people just because a few states decided to reclaim their rightful place among the sovereign nations of the world.

No worries. Quite cool to think that people regard us as an independant nation!
Neither I am afraid. There are a lot more teams in Scotland than Rangers or Celtic. Funny I was asked the same question when I visited Sweden.

doh! I knew that...but thanks to Sean Connery (not really but James Bond should get as much of the credit as possible) Scotland has some limited rights of self governance. I want to see Britain lose Wales and Scotland.

Where was Scotland? I am over 15/16 Norwegian and Scottish with one french ancestor filling me with self loathing. Norway has shot up the charts because despite a socialized economy that is cradle to the grave their economy is doing pretty well because of massive oil and natural reserves off the coast. They are also a homogenous body of fairly crimeless people which makes for high education and long life expectancy.
