This is a shit post, and I'm hurrying to get it in before midnight.
BUT, I've been wondering... How many people regularly read stuff on Uber? Are most of the people who come here registered? Do most people post?
OR
Are there a ton of lurkers?
What got me thinking about this? Well, for one- Snuggs said something about girls running up to him at a concert like "OOHHHH SNUGGLES", and although I'd have to call shenanigans on that, I wonder if there ARE many lurkers?
and two- one of my good friends always reads uber, she knows the social structure, etc... but she almost NEVER posts or reviews.
How many unregistered lurkers do we HAVE? How many registered lurkers never review or post?? A TON? Or like, 8?
And, to keep you all from bitching:

I lurked for a few weeks, just reading things. I was impressed by some of the talent on here and thought I could learn a thing or two about writing, so I've posted a few things.

I'm only on Uber at work and I've been lurking and rating for 3 months now. I'll come in, read a post, rate it and I'm out. I don't even have a computer at home if you can believe that. The reason why I don't post is that I simply don't have the time. Maybe someday.

I lurked for about 3 weeks before I actually registered and posted on the same day. I wanted to get a feel for how things worked, so I didn't get too badly flamed on my first post. Tried hard not to break any rules, and survived the trial by fire fairly unscathed. It's been about 3 weeks since I registered (still a noob) and I've been here almost every day since (I have a lot of free time at work). I did post a couple of reviews before I registered, but I doubt anyone took them too seriously.

I lurked for about 4 months before signing up. I'm probably still considered a lurker due to my very few posts and only a couple of hundred replies.
I'm usually on Uber every night for 3-4 hours while I do other stuff at the same time.
I need a hobby.

I lurked for about a week, then posted three times in a day, before I really got the point. Then after getting raped on my first ones, I lurked for a while more. Then I started posting again. And here I am.

I came here for three years, and registered after the Burt and Ernie story was told because I wanted to tell the writer how great it was. I lurked for a long time. I'm here everyday.

I lurked for about 2-3 months before I registered.
I forgot my password.
I re-registered under another username.
I forgot my password again.
I re-registered again with this username, this time I checked the little "save my password" box.
I only rated for about 4-5 months before I got the stones to post something.
I am personally responsible for two dead usernames and I have been around longer than my username info would have you believe.

what is the average number of identities per user? two, or three?

I don't know how I missed that post Nuggetta.
I try to pick up all yours.
I was gonna say you seem a bit PMS but thought I would say touchy.
Hang in there Grrrl.
Now as far as what makes me review or post:
I see this site like a virtual interactive magazine.
In some ways it is a bit anarchic but if you read enough of the posts and reviews it actually gives a lot of insight into how people are thinking and getting through their lives.
I post stuff because I find it amusing, interesting, entertaining or soemtimes just a bit provocative. Also like the post series I am doing at the moment it can also be a bit cathartic in a way.

Dudette: How often do you come to uber?
Mike: I am the same way... I used to read ALL the posts... it was so enthralling... my ratings meant a lot to me... if someone said something nasty I took it to heart.
I think it's funny that now my writing has evolved quite a bit (except for this post) yet NOW I don't care about rankings. Before I did.
And I'm definatly in the habit of only reading certian posters work.

I lurked for about a month before I ever posted here on Uber.
I found it to be extremely fascinating at one point but now I just like to practice my writing and read some of the funny stuff others write. For the most part I just ignore the idiots even though they sometimes do not ignore me. I also don't care whether or not my posts get plussed or minused.
There is a point however, where I feel that if seventy five percent of the denizens of Uber make up a good cross section of the worlds population as a whole, then we are all fucked completely.
It's the other twenty five percent that keep me coming here.

Hmmmmmm interesting. I don't believe I said that these ten thousand users all come here everyday.
The fact that over ten thousand peeps have even bothered to register to this site; can probably be extrapolated to give an Idea of the total number of people regularly viewing this site.
I don't know what the math on that would be but I am sure BART would have a traffic analysis that would give the number of page views, number of visitors, number of unique visitors etc etc etc

Schmoe- Yeah, I was kinda wondering about that... hah... "yes I lurk" they say, as they click "back to main list of messages" link.
I 'knew' about uber for a long time before I even lurked. At first it seemed very boring and confusing. I'm not sure what was so confusing, NOW, but at the time I remember thinking, "What the hell is this site??".
Then I probably lurked for like, a month... and then I decided to post. I didn't even have anything to post about, I just wanted to get back into writing.

Oh, and Dakingisdead:
That's not necessarily true. I mean there are NOT 10,000 users that roam this site daily, and I will go farther to guarantee the probably that there aren't anymore than 3,500 that come to this site on a daily basis to read posts. It's strictly a small community of users that come back. The majority register and leave within the month due to lack of interest or because of the very harsh introductory environs.

Ahaha, Nuggs I thought it'd be really funny if this post only got like 9 reviews. Because you're asking if a lot of people just come to this site to read, and don't comment or anything like that. Well, if there ARE a bunch, what if they just read this and say, "Yes," but it'd be strictly to themselves and they didn't comment.
Thus you wouldn't really get the reaction or response you wanted. I just thought it'd be somewhat humorous to watch a bunch of people sort of struggle against their own will NOT to comment on this because they only read. Seriously, imagine it and you'll get a chuckle.
Oh, and nice...bubbles.

I'm no good at math, so whatever you just said, all I heard was "baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" and then something about reality tv.
So, then, those of us who post regularly are NOT the norm, would you say?

Simple arithmetic says that with over 10,000 users and only a couple hundred or so posts (if that) a day, and the fact that it seems a very regular crew reviewing, there are a couple of zillion lurkers out there.
It is a reflection of a society fixated on reality TV. The world has become a place where people live their lives as voyeurs.
Personally that is cool for me. I would rather have lurkers than negative2men.
Nice Pic Corny. Shame it wasn't bigger.
