I stood in the aisle at Target, looking at the travel coffee cups. As I am prone to over-thinking EVERYTHING, it took me quite some time to decide which color to buy. First, I grabbed the red one. Why red, though? I put it back. I looked at each color and tried to decide, logically, which to buy.

The silver cup seemed to be most logical. It was simple, traditional, and it matched my car. I put it in my cart, and continued on my way. That red cup kept nagging at me. I stood before the shampoos and contioners, but all I could think of was the red cup. Leaving my cart in the health and beauty section, I jogged back over to the cups, and exchanged my silver one for the red. Much better.

Back to shampoo. Thermasilk. Purple bottle.

I couldn't wait to go home and shower. I love showering after buying new shampoo. Even if it's the same kind of shampoo which I had before (as it always is, since I only use the one type), it pleases me to No End to shower with new stuff.

While I was standing under the stream of hot water, I noticed something.

My razor is purple. My spongey-thing is purple. Both my shampoo and conditioner are in purple bottles. My body wash is in a purple bottle.

Interesting.

After my shower I got dressed, and headed out to meet with some friends. Jeans and a dark brown tank top. No no, I wore this tank top last time! I changed into a light brown tube top.

The next day I woke up early, excited to use my new red coffee cup. I filled it up with my awesome coffee (Chocolate Velvet, baby!), and headed out the door. When I got to work I set the cup next to my organizer.

Hmm... They're both red. I look up at my folders and binders- all red.

It all came together. I know I'm weird. I hear it all of the time, usually said in an amused tone, followed by a hug or a jovial push... I know I'm weird, but I don't see myself as being weird. I just accept that others think that. But this... this was weird. I had somehow managed to organize my life by color. All of these color decisions I had been making must signify SOMETHING. All my bath stuff is purple... my clothes are all brown... my work stuff is all red...

What gives?

Purple signifies luxury, wealth, and sophistication. It's a symbol of romance and femininity. Using this for my intimates seems to say that I am a romantic at heart. True. (don't tell anyone)

Wearing brown... Well, brown is a symbol for genuineness, and is seen as a very eartly color (go figure). Since I chose to wear this, I'd say that THIS is how I want to be seen. Trustworthy, genuine, and earthy. True.

Red at work. Red symbolizes passion, love, warmth, power, excitement and aggression. Fancy that. I feel all of those things about my job. I love it, it excites me, and aggression... well, maybe competition? True.

Am I the only one who does this?

***
Oh, another thing... an odd little Corinne thing...

I get the colors green and orange mixed up. Not that I don't KNOW the difference, but somehow my brain gets confused. If I see a green car one day, and the next someone says, "What color was that car?", in my BRAIN I remember it as orange.

While speaking, I OFTEN say the wrong color. If I want the green pen, it's very common for me to say, "Hey, give me that orange pen, eh?". Then the other person goes "Huh? There is no orange pen." and then I say, "The green one".

I have ALWAYS done this, and it's only with these two colors? What's THAT all about?
***

OH, and... I used to work with a guy who associated colors with letters. Every name, word, sentence, symbol... they all had a color to them.

I don't care what color it is as long as it holds coffee.

I dress mainly in black though.

I've always been drawn to black. Most of my clothes, any furniture/appliances that I chose, cars I look first at, you name it.

I buy red everything. All my shirts are solid red, no design,... but you already knew that. Does that make me aggressive and all those other things?

I bought a yellow car, and own nothing else at all that is yellow. What does that mean?

Analyze me oh color-wise nugget.

This post reminds me of a musician I know who associates music (like, key signatures and chords) with colours.

Oh, and everything I own is purple. Or pink.

when someone tells me I'm weird/insane/nuts/a lunatic/fucking daft/strange/whatever I start crying and tell them that I'M THE NORMAL ONE and that THEY ARE CRAZY! People usually agree and then leave me alone.

I don't have a luxury of choosing what colors I get for anything, it is always "the cheapest one" whatever color that is.... +2 for foibles, gotta love 'em!

I let my wife buy my clothes. If I didn't, I would still be walking around in 10-year-old tie dyes and concert tour shirts from Iron Maiden's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son tour.

I am very much like you. When I was in school I colour-coded all my supplies by subject. NOw, I know a lot of people might do that, make the folder and notebook for the same subject the same colour or something, but I was crazy about it. I colour-coded EVERYTHING. Notebooks, folders, book covers, pens, pencils, staplers, highlighters... everything. And if there was something I needed to use for more than one class, I got it the colour in between. IE- I needed my Spanish-English dictionary for Spanish Composition (red) and Spanish Literature (yellow) so I covered it with, you guessed it, orange paper. I'm sorta... uh... crazy I guess...

Those tests are quite cool.

1. DESIRED OBJECTIVES OR BEHAVIOR DICTATED BY DESIRED OBJECTIVES.
Strives for a life rich in activity and experience, and for a close bond offering sexual and emotional
fulfillment.

2. THE EXISTING SITUATION OR BEHAVIOR APPROPRIATE TO THE EXISTING SITUATION.
Sensuous. Inclined to luxuriate in things which give gratification to the senses, but rejects anything
tasteless, vulgar or coarse.

3. CHARACTERISTICS UNDER RESTRAINT OR BEHAVIOR INAPPROPRIATE
TO THE EXISTING SITUATION.
Willing to become emotionally involved, but demanding and particular in his choice of a partner and
in his relations those close to him. Needs reassurance and is careful to avoid open conflict since
this might reduce his prospects of realizing his hopes and ideas.

4. REJECTED OR SUPPRESSED CHARACTERISTICS OR ANXIETY-LADEN CHARACTERISTICS.
Frustration at unacceptable restrictions on his freedom of action is producing stress. Seeks
independence and freedom from any restriction and therefore avoids obligations or anything which
might prove hampering. He is being subjected to considerable pressure and wants to escape from it
so that he can obtain what he needs, but tends to lack the necessary strength of purpose to
succeed in this. Frustrated desire for independence and freedom of action.

5. THE ACTUAL PROBLEM OR BEHAVIOR RESULTING FROM STRESS.
Fights against restriction or limitation, and insists on developing freely as a result of his own efforts.

Does not wish to be involved in differences of opinion, contention or argument, preferring to be left in
peace.
