There's been a lot of talk lately about how pretty much all new music sucks. While most of it does indeed blow donkeys for quarters, there are a few bands that stand out among the shit. I present to you 5 recent singles that don't rape your ears:

1. Modest Mouse "Float On" - I know there are probably a lot of hardcore Modest Mouse fans out there that are saying "Oh, this sucks because it's on MTV." and to them I give a big fuck you. Even if it isn't as amazing as their old stuff, it's still a great song and deserves to be recognized as such.

2. The Von Bondies "C'mon, C'mon" - As far as I can tell, The Von Bondies are one of the saving graces of rock. Not so over produced you want to hurl, but not so under produced it sounds like it was recorded in a tin can. Good, hard, old fashioned rock and roll.

3. Franz Ferdinand "Take Me Out" - Pretty much great for the same reasons as The Von Bondies. No matter what you think of this band, you have to give them credit for trying to revive rock.

4. The Darkness "Growing On Me" (or pretty much the entire "Permission to Land" album) - There's not really much to say except thank God or Allah or Buddha for The Darkness. The lead singer is pretty much Freddie Mercury reincarnated. There have even been talks of him singing with Queen at a 30th anniversary show.

5. Thursday "Signals Over the Air" - If you think Thursday is emo, then you have never listened to them and probably never should. Thursday is good, hard, social-minded music, protest music for the next generation. No hippie 60s protest songs for us, they're aggressive and don't apologize for it.

There you have it, ladies and gentlemen of Uber, 5 recent singles that don't suck, presented for your listening pleasure.

A fat chick suck-starting a Chevy would be better than most of the garbage that's played on MTV and the radio. I stopped reading after I saw the word emo.

uh is it just me or has antone else noticed that 'Float On' by Modest Mouse is the same exact song as U2's 'Bloody Sunday'? They both have the same exacyt music and beat and watever else MOdest Mouse simply changed the lyrics. So not only are they sellouts(not necessarily a bad thing ) but they also steal other peoples music. Its like that time watshisface(dont remember his name because his music sucked so its not worth remembering) stole a Queen song and got away with it cuz he changed one not.
--------------------------------
The only thing that's similar about "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "Float On" are the drums at the beginning. And I think you're talking about Vanilla Ice, he didn't get away with it, people are still talking about how fucked up it was.

Naturally, you are entitled to your opinion. However, any band that may be "considered" emo, is dogshit in my book. It'll be here today and gone tomorrow. I don't think that any of these bands have lasting power. If I am wrong on that, I'd be happy to eat my words.

1) Fuck you.

2) It's not my fault these songs are on MTV. I'm so fucking sick of the "Oh, it's on MTV, it sucks" mentality. It's just as bad as the "I've never seen it on MTV so it must suck" side. Quit trying to be so cool and different and just listen to music.

You put yourself on the chopping block for this one.

I think, on this site at least, that a musical post could easily get more heated than a religious or political post. Too many different tastes, I guess.

If that's a list of 5 songs you like, so be it.

If that's a list of 5 songs I hate, so be it.

If that's a list of 5 songs that you thing have great artistic value....

...Well, we all know that's not true, don't we?
------------------------------------------------
I wasn't saying by any means that they have GREAT artistic value (except maybe the Darkness, and fuck all you nay-sayers), I was just saying they rise above most of the shit in the mainstream today.

I know I opened myself up, but I don't really care. They're my tastes and I'm sticking to them, and I don't give a shit what some people on a website think of my musical choices, because they're MINE, not theirs, and I was just putting out my perspective on things. I'd rather get panned and start a debate or something than just be completely ignored.

The lead singer of the Darkness wishes that his voice was as good as freddie mercury's. he sings in falsetto (woman voice) all the time because he's trying to be like Freddie, but freddie could actually sing that high in true folds (man voice) which makes him better.

I like Franz Ferdinand though. they're a lot of fun

Modest Mouse is proto-emo, which by definition sucks.

Von Bondies are a flash in the pan that epitomizes how crappy new music is by having no substance (don't bother pointing out that the Misfits have no substance, at least they can help get out aggression).

Franz Ferdinand is pathetic, move on.

The Darkness.... whoever scouted them out should be taken out back and shot.

Thursday, or as I call it "scream-o", is poor as well.

But because you don't listen to rap I'll only give you a -1.

-2,000 for even mentioning Modest Mouse. Music on the radio used to be at least a little tolerable, but now it's getting to the point where I can't turn it on for more than 5 minutes without wanting to tear my deck out of dashboard with my bare hands and toss it right out the window. Linkin Park, Jet, Thousand-Foot Crutch, Godsmack, The White Stripes, and on and on.... There's so much excrement to wade through to try and find something listenable that the radio function on my deck isn't even used anymore. The station here that used to air Tom Leykis and Phil Hendrie went bankrupt, so the radio has pretty much become obsolete around here.

Say what you want about Modest Mouse and I'll respect your opinion but respect mine too. Ever since they went on MTV, every preteen slut out there loves them now just because they went on MTV. Awesome, if I was in a band I'd sure go on MTV for the cash so I don't really blame them, but it just gets annoying when all these little kids pretend to like a genre of music or band to look cool. It fuckin' pisses me off, because you shouldn't run with mainstream shit, you should be yourself.

Personally I think Float On is the worst song off Good News For People Who Love Bad News. But that's just me, my opinion.

I totally agree with the first part, but I don't really care about what other people do, as George Carlin once said "Live and let live, and if anyone doesn't agree, take 'em out back and shoot the motherfucker."

As for the second part, the only other song I've heard off of the new album is World At Large, which is defininetly better than Float On, but Float On is still a great song.

I love The Darkness. One of the best CDs I've heard in years.

Never heard the of the Von Bondies, and still a little skeptic of Thursday, but other than that pretty good. Just a bit out of order.
