It had been at least a month since I had been by #911 when I showed up that Sunday evening to say goodbye to Luke and Matt. I walked up to the front door, eyeing the trash and broken screens along with the discarded beer cans and bottles that had continued to collect in the yard since the last time I was there. Had the house not been the sole dwelling on the cul-de-sac at the end of the street, I'm sure the neighbors would have been up in arms about the miserable state the property had been reduced to.

I was just about to knock on the door when I heard Luke's voice through the open window to the left of it. "We've got to call somebody and tell them he's dead," I heard him saying. "The cops or the hospital or something...somebody."

I knocked on the door, thinking I must have misunderstood what I had overheard, and was met with momentary silence and then Adam's hushed voice ordering Matt to "see who the fuck that is."

"It's just me," I called out to the closed door. I saw the top of Matt's head and then his eyes peering out at me from the glass cut-outs in the door, and then Adam's face appeared in the window. "Get your ass inside and fucking be quiet," he admonished me, and then he disappeared back inside the house.

The house was almost unrecognizable from the inside. It looked like a bomb had gone off. A shit-bomb. There was broken furniture and trash strewn about. The walls had been spray-painted with illegible graffiti, and it smelled like someone had thrown up everywhere, which was entirely possible. Luke and Matt were sitting on what was left of their couch, and their demeanor suggested all was not well.

"I'll be back in a sec, I've gotta do something upstairs," Adam said as I took a seat on an overturned milk crate and watched him quickly ascend the stairs two at a time.

"So guys," I said to Luke and Matt as I turned my attention toward them, "what, uh, what's going on?"

Luke and Matt looked at each other somewhat sheepishly, then at the ground, and then at each other again. "Al is dead," Luke finally offered up. I asked a bit hesitantly "What do you mean he's dead...how do you know that?" "Yeah, he's dead man," Matt piped in with alarm. "He's lying out there right now next to the house. That's where we found him just a little while ago."

I was staring at them incredulously. "What the fuck happened?" I asked, and before they could answer I added, "You've got to call somebody, the police I guess. I'll call if you guys won't. I don't understand what the problem is."

I had just about forgotten Adam had gone upstairs until I heard him coming back down. I heard the shotgun being pumped before I saw it, but it was all I could focus on when Adam pointed it at me.
"You're not calling anyone," Adam hissed through gritted teeth as he leveled the gun just above the bridge of my nose, "and neither are we."

That's how I came to find myself helping my two friends drag Crazy Al out into the woods behind their house, while Adam lorded over us with his gun. All the while my mind was racing, trying to make some sense of what was going on, and one of my life credos kept repeating in my head: never argue with a man with a gun, never ever argue with a man with a gun. I wasn't sure what I should do, but I wasn't going to do anything stupid. I wasn't going to get myself or my friends shot, that was for damn sure.

Silently, each of us apparently lost in our own thoughts, we walked far enough into the woods that we couldn't see the house anymore, and then Adam told us to stop. We dropped Al unceremoniously on the ground and looked at each other. "Well," said Adam, "start digging."

I am such an ass for not looking for a part 3 to this story before now. I'm like you, too busy to read Uber every day and I therefore miss some of the better stuff written. Even though it's belated, I want to reiterate how much I like your writing and especially this story. Please finish it when you get time.

Wow Trishtopher. I'm amazed whenever this gets dug up. For you and the other kind folks who rated, I'm going to try to finish it. But especially for you, because you asked so nicely.

Damn, this series kicks ass. Please, please, please post the rest of it...this is like finding the last page torn from an awesome story.

Yeah, there's still a little more to the story, but between work and the apparent general lack of interest I never got around to posting it. It's funny you dug this up though, because I've been thinking about finishing it just for the sake of doing so.

I know this series is from awhile ago, but is there any more?
What happened to Adam? You?

Still got my attention. I could use more visuals though. This is playing out in my head like a horror movie.
