Hillary Duff recently delivered a concert to a mass of delighted, screeching, prepubescent fans in East Rutherford, NJ. She squealed through her set, albeit with much support from back up vocalists, of familiar tunes much to the pleasure of her jubilant fans. After her regular set she did the obligatory encore performance that we have all come to know and love. For her finale she chose to elate the crowd with "My Generation" by The Who. Although I'm certain they don't know who (no pun intended)wrote the song, nor would they care if informed, they loved it anyway.
I must applaud Ms.Duff for choosing to offer up an oldie to her fans. It is imperative that younger people hear and know about old music. Without knowledge of where music has been, what that music means and where it comes from, music's future would be quite uncertain. It is imperative for all of the next generation to know what previous generations have done in order to secure a vital role for good music in the future. That being said I must take issue with Ms.Duff's bastardization of The Who.
In order to please moms, dads and various others who may have a stick lodged in their rectum she altered a phrase in the song. Now I'm postitive a lot of the teen power pop revelers didn't notice this change, they probably don't even know the words to the song. The change, although tiny in a literary sense, is enormous. The phrase she chose to alter was the usually desperately raucous "Hope I die before I get old." She changed it to "Hope I DON'T die before I get old." This strikes at the very heart of the rock and roll ideal of living for the moment, consequences be damned. Now, I wasn't at the concert but I'm pretty sure the sound of Keith Moon rolling in his grave was audible throughout the venue. Ms.Duff what are you trying to do? Why do you want rock and roll dead? What has it ever done to you other than open the door for you to your shit career?
Through the power of record label executives and the lack of will present in a teen pop idol, Hillary Duff managed to drag the soul of rock and roll through the mud that is homogenized, Disney crap culture. In this world of the clean and the pure there is no conflict, there is no hate, there is no pain great enough to make you want to open your mouth as wide as you can and bellow from the depths of your soul "I HOPE I DIE BEFORE I GET OLD!" I beg of all of you don't let Hillary Duff and Disney kill rock and roll.

One word: AMBIGUITY! Congratz dude you know what it means. But the words of one pop princess definitely should not kill rock and roll hounestly if parents of the 70's couldn't do it. How the fuck do you think a 16 year old blonde haird teen princess of the new age could kill rock and roll?????

The music industry has tragically plummeted ever since 1972. We're now approaching rock bottom.

I hope I die before I get old.
I love The Who. That's one of my favorite songs of all time.
I hate Hillary Duff for sucking all over the place, having a stupid last name, and.... oh fuck it, who am I kidding? I'd still bang her.

Yeah, I hate when bitches fuck up the original lyrics to songs.
Like this one band that had a chick lead singer was covering Led Zeppelin's 'Ramble On' and she changed the words from "I'm goin' around the world I'm gonna find my girl" to the same thing but with "man" instead of "girl." Fucking moron, what, you think everyone's going to think you're a bulldyke vagi-thug because you stick to the original lyrics? Timid lame whore.

It is believed that rock and roll achieved perfection sometime between late 1969 and early 1972, and that it tragically passed away in March of 1975.

why is it imperative to know about old music?
those who don't know their history are doomed to repeat it right? So maybe if you were to ban all youths from listening to anything pre 1985, they would make good music, fuck i am on to something.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Whilst you make a good point generally people who write music end up writing music influenced by bands they like. Therefore the more exposure one gets to older music the more likely it is it will influence the music they write.
