I'm not your average 40 year old guy. I'm somewhere merged at the cellular level in-between a Bill Murray/Finch(Just Shoot ME)/Ben Stein and Balou the bear from "The Jungle Book" as one man can be.
I use humor and my smile to ease the feeling most people give me when I first meet them. I'm alittle on the big size and that really shut's people down...even before they meet me and talk with me awhile.
I can easily pass for my late 20's , early 30's even though I'm on the low side of 40. I have a wide array of friends that span the time chart from the cast of "Cocoon" to that little Harry Potter shit. I can appreciate things that a teenager can aswell as my friends that are in their 80's. Hell, my wife is almost 15 years my junior.
I'm easy to talk with. Quick with a joke or smart assed remark. Never condescending. I usually have some great advice or an anecdote about the particular subject that will envoke a smile or thought.
I'm turning into that cool old man my grand father was, which I relish.
My problem...Someone called my music I had cued up at a pool/poker/rumor party..... OLD!....
"excuse me?" WhAT the fuck do you know about music?...assjack...look at your wife...FOOD you know...so does she...Music..Thats like asking Stevie Wonder to help Ray Charles get dressed...fuck off"...I thought to myself.
Then...one of the 20-somethings strolled by with his teeny girlfriend and added his two cents in and agreed with Assjack 1. Shaking myself back to reality I thought about it. My music was old?
OLD?....I assure you I had some oldies on my cd, but nothing Moses would snap his fingers to.
GOD DAMMIT!!!! Did I silently become OLD?...Is my mirror just telling me lies?....Did mother nature slowly sneak a tablespoon of Meta-mucil into my beer?
So I'm asking UBer...is my music THAT old as to make a party die down to the silence of a funeral home on a two-for-one day?
And if it is...What would your one cd have on it at a party?

I'm 24 and none of that shit is outdated or played out - even I like some ZZ Top now and again.
I'd be pissed too - if I put on some Zeppelin or Hendrix at a party and someone dared make a comment, I'd punch them in the neck and put a high heel thru their foot...not that I wear high heels...often...

I think that they were more commenting more on Verve Pipe and Wheezer. Just the stuff that's just getting of the massive media blitz that comes with a successful single, and hasn't had enough down time to cool off from teh "Played Meter". Stuff like ZZ, Aerosmith, Doors, Stones, and Hendrix are never gonna die.

I'm 18 years old and I know a whole bunch of young people who like shit music so don't worry about it. I don't know some of the stuff on your list but I do agree with Ben Folds and The Verve. I like The Beatles, Bowie, Lou Reed, Elliott Smith, Queen, The Pixies, Ben Folds Five, Nirvana and a whole bunch of varying shit. Those people who said you were old probably like all of the commercial shit turned out... In conclusion fuck them!

Anyone that thinks that Led Zepplin and Jimi Hendrix are played out should be castrated and deserve to be deaf.
I think those people meant that the bands on your list like Adema and Weezer aren't "played out" as in they're oldies, they're played out like tamagotchis. Imagine one of the queer eye for the straight guys saying "That music is soooooooooo two years ago!"
I'm 18 and I personally think that your list is pretty damn good.
