Im D erick, ill be 15 in mid october; that's not important though, what's important is something thats 30. 30 amazing freaking years! yes, i am talking about the greatest band of all time: Rush.
Theyve won 8 Junos, are the best selling canadian band ever, play a kind of progressive rock(sometimes progressive metal)that brings toghether different elements and makes like.. the perfect sound, the perfect song, and they are just overall freakin cool. They are like *the* band.
They got 29 albums, including compilations and lives. I think there are 17 total studio albums, 14 of which are kickass! They have without a doubt the greatest drummer of all time Neil Peart, arguabley the greatest Bass player(in my opinion greatest LIVING bass player, seeing as entwhistle is dead)Geddy Lee(who also hits some pretty cool freakin vocals), and a kickass guitar player Alex Lifeson who is one of the best slide guitar players out there. This trio has great chemistry and is something amazing. Neil Peart is also known for writing the lyrics to 95% of their songs with songs like Limelight(which quotes shakespeare), 2112 the amazing 21 minute story of a future with no music and the person who rebels(which created the wicked starman logo), Freewill the lecture on Religous and Superstious fanatics, and much MUCH more.
2112 from the album 2112 is a great story with complex drumming that fits so perfectly it feels like youre hearing some sort of amazing singing.. but its drums. YYZ[Moving Pictures] very well may be the greatest rock instrumental, and the best bass performance imagenable. Natural Science is another cool story and drum performance from Permanent Waves, I think's a pariody on Society and Humanity, I know for certain it's a psychedelic adventure. This also has The Spirit of Radio which is deticated to 'the spirit of radio'(this toronto thing that unfortunately ended) and is about how great music is overall, which proves Lifeson has some great things himself(and the pause and the sudden change in play with the drums and the great moment in that is like my favorite moment in any song), the guitar is also wicked in Anthem, By-Tor and the Snow Dog, Working Man... fancier stuff like Bastille Day and Freewill. I could go on about the great performances by each instrument, but that would go on forever, not to mention how well they all succeed along with the others - like i said, there is great chemistry. And we must not forget the song about being a teenager in the suburbs 'subdivisions' which brings the keyboards in and is almost creepy in the emotional effect it can have and how the sound goes with what he says so perfectly.
I feel bad for the songs I dont mention, but alas I cannot continue like this. And by god they are still going! Since 1974 they have been going! They are on their 30th Birthday tour right now and just realsed the cd of covers 'feedback' a few weeks ago. They are really amazing, and are like the ultimate rock NOUN.
I say, go download different kinds of Rush illegally right now! See what you like! But if you do... buy them, dont steal. Actually nevermind, if its the way youre gonna get to listen to Rush go for it! Steal! Yeah!
Without these guys, life wouldnt be the same.[God, Different Stages is a great live collection! HAHHA! look at that pic on the inside, arent they humorous?]

uh...you really like Rush a lot I see.
I can play the solo from YYZ on guitar, but that's my extent of knowledge of them. My dad said their fans back in the 70s, 80s were gigantic nerds.

My only problem with Peart is that he uses that ride cymbal pattern alot. The one in YYZ and Red Barchetta and some other songs.
The "1 and a 2 and 3 and a 4 e and a" pattern.

Im a huge zeppelin fan and have all their DVDs, and.. I dont remember making that list.
so.. sorry, youre right, bonzo is god. he's better than keith moon and the only people i would ever consider calling better than him are peart and baker. and maybe not even them.

Check out Coheed and Cambria - their radio song is decent but the rest of the album is much better.

i love zeppelin and i love bonzo and all, but he's pretty over-rated.
listen to 2112 and natural science and yyz and la villa strangiato and download the famous live yyz with drumsolo. hell, add me to your msn dprime.at.hotmail.com and ill send it to you. then if you think bonzo or other guys are better, after listenign to that one 2 minute solo, ill respect you 100%

I had an 8th grade Reading teacher who loved Rush. (Ahh, for the days when I had classes like "Reading" instead of "Contemporary Arab World Political Thought"...)
That said, I never really got into them.
THAT said, this post left a lot to be desired. I give you props for being able to explain WHY you like them, instead of being mindlessly fanatic, and it also sounds like there is some good expression TRYING to emerge from your writing, but it needs a lot of work. Definitely proofread.

I agree that Rush is a great band.
But your post was disorganized, poorly punctuated, and quite frankly it hurt my eyes to read it.

Contrary to popular belief (or maybe just yours), Rush is actually pretty mediocre. Thirty years of barely listenable music is nothing to be proud of.
I won't give you a -2, because at least you're not listening to any of the shit on the radio today, which is sort of impressive for a 14-year-old. But if you're just starting to listen to classic rock, it gets a lot better than Rush. Check out Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, The Beatles, and especially The Rolling Stones. In my most humble opinion, if you haven't listened to Exile on Main St. and Sticky Fingers all the way through at least 20 times each, you shouldn't be allowed to review or listen to any other music.
