The glow of candles casts shadows on the walls and ceiling. Sterling picture frames reflect the yellow-orange glow, adding to the soft and cozy feeling of our living room. Smiling faces stare back from the frames. The white of my wedding dress in one contrasts with the turquoise blue of a Caribbean sky in the next. The mahogany on the mantle gleams from its weekly polish, and reflects a reddish glow from the fire dancing below it. Grandma Lorelei's rocker sits in a corner after being lovingly restored by him as a fifth anniversary present last year. The sectional is covered in throw pillows, perfect for hugging to yourself during a movie and the perfect choice of colors to compliment the artwork on the walls. Years of treasures adorn the room. A glass bell from my mom, an old humidor from his great uncle Lewis, a globe on a grand maple stand next to the hearth all find comfort within these walls.
A cozy blanket is tossed aside along with his tie and jacket. High heeled pumps lay haphazardly under the coffee table, strangely alluring partnered with the delicate stemmed glasses on the glass table top. The stemware was an impulsive purchase at that quaint shop in Gloucester two years back. The faint golden tint of the glass a memory of the blazing colors in the trees that weekend. The mauve lipstick smudge on one is a perfect compliment to the rosy liquid inside.
Off in the left corner sits the white ottoman that he declared completely impractical, minutes before giving in to my obvious enjoyment of the antique. His black slacks askew on the claret colored rug beneath the ottoman are a study in complimentary colors. A jade slip dress spills from the edge of the rug to the creamy carpet below.
His tanned back with the muscles playing in the firelight is visible above the coffee table. His ebony hair tousled by red nails, hugs his head as it travels down an alabaster stomach, lingering at the navel, playing the nerve endings there. A stocking clad leg slides to the side, making a path for his skillful tongue to glide to its destination. A destination, that when reached produces a gasp and a tensing of well toned thighs.
A small patch of steam appears on the window before me as I exhale, clearing as fast as it arrived. The gun in my hand feeling more and more at home as I watch them, on the braided rug he gave me last Christmas, destroying everything I hold dear.
