NECROSIAC - PART 1
The old hag had nailed him good. Whatever Hex she had put on him was working fast, ravaging his body with a brutality he had never before experienced, and in his line of work he had experienced alot.
It felt as though his muscles were being carpet bombed, like he was the victim of Hemoragic Fever, Epilepsy, and Flesh Eating Disease at the same time. The filthy cement floor in the small dingy apartment was cold and hard beneath him, and he thought he could feel the back of his head going soft with the constant impact of his violent twitching. Waves of heat and cold slammed against him as if he was being tossed around in a storm of arctic water and brimstone. He could feel the sweat running down his body and his clothes begin to dampen and stick. His breathing came in ragged random gasps as the constrictions in his chest caused him to wheeze and grunt like an animal being beat.
Unmercifully his thoughts were clear, depriving him of the escape that comes with unconsciousness. He could see the dark crimson web of magic writhing around his body, like a thousand hungry worms working their way into him. That was his talent. The ability to see what no one else could. Plenty of people had the talent to work magic, but as far as he knew, he was the only one who could physically see it in all its manifestations.
Fat lot of good...
Mattaius tried to cry out in agony but couldn't. He was unable to martial the control of his throat necessary to form coherent sound, yet with great effort he managed to turn his head to the side and get a last look at his murderer.
The Hag sat on the floor facing him, her back propped against the grease stained wall, legs splayed out, eyes rolled up into the back of her shaved head. Blood flowed from the bullet hole above her left eye, running down her tattooed cheek and neck to stain black her filthy brown dress, her face frozen in an almost comical "Was it something I said?" expression.
Her leg twitched.
For a split second the anguish in his body was replaced by an overwhelming fear. Those with Necromantic ability could sometimes self-reanimate after death. Powerful Necromancers could even live a reasonably productive existence, using their dark skills to mask and slow the deterioration of dead flesh. No hell imaginable could compare to what a person with the ability to bind a soul to a dead body could concoct. He'd seen what a pissed of Necromancer could do. It was the one thing in all his experience that still gave him nightmares.
But he knew there was no way the old bitch was getting up. The runes carved into the bullet would ensure the negation of any magics left in her body, and he would have seen the intricate weaving of the spells necessary from the moment they met.
But then he hadn't seen this coming...
The fact that she possessed such powerful magic was surprising. It had blown through the protective charms and tattoos on his body like nothing he had ever experienced. Even the natural immunities he had built up over a decade of exposure to dark magics wasn't providing the smallest amount of defense or comfort against the ravenous power that was feasting on him.
A fresh wave of spasms tore through him, causing him to vomit violently, some of it splashing on the pale dead flesh of the Hags bloated left foot.
"Jesus no" he thought "Not like this. I don't want to go like this."
The anguish had become unbearable as his body tore itself apart. The beating of his head against the floor was causing bright multicolored spots to appear in his vision. The world seemed to slip sideways, then focus into crystal clarity, then darken. The certainty that he was a dead man held him in an unforgiving embrace.
He welcomed it. Fuck this job.
"We'll finish this in hell you bitch" he thought. "Where's the fucking agency, when I need them..."
The muscles in his chest and neck clenched at the same time and held, causing the need for oxygen in his lungs and brain to reach a terminal crescendo.
Death came for Mattaius Pitt arms wide and grinning.

I have never, will never, can never carve out prose like this.
I feel humbled and ashamed.
How the fuck does J.K.Rowling have a contract while this goes unpublished?
