I need reality.
I need to feel something solid. I need to know I'm alive.
The more I try to make myself feel, the more surreal life seems. Two day drunkfest in New Hampshire doesn't make me feel more vibrant- it only surprises me. I'm surprised that I made it through. I'm surprised that I'm able to sit here, in front of my computer, and type.
I have an addiction to the people I met. The weekend wasn't enough. I need them. I need the comfort of sitting on the couch with someone, shoulder to shoulder, completely comfortable in silence. The way we all connected- it's inexplicable. Each time I read a post about the weekend, I recognize the struggle to put the FEELING of comfort, security, and genuine friendship to words.
It can't be real.
After work I went to a friends house. I found my mind drifting off. What was I doing? Living in Michigan my whole life, working retail, divorced at 26, single, bored, restless... pay attention, Corinne. Listen to Gloria talk about her boyfriend. When would I make my mark? When would I break through the surface? Gloria needs me to answer. Pay attention.
A dry summer. Picture it. It's hot. Your eyelids stick together when you blink, your tongue rallies against you, your body is drenched in sweat. You see the clouds rolling in... oh, thank god, you think... it's going to rain!
And it does rain. It's a glorious, thirst quenching, cleansing wash.
A few days later it's dry again, the towns-people have stopped talking about the storm... You don't really need any more rain. The last rain was good enough, really, it was perfect.
But you feel the humidity fall into the air. You smell atmosphere settling around you.
This is the feeling.
I'm on the verge of something great, something huge, something unbelievable. I can feel the tension beneath the surface of my consciousness.. I can hear the rumble of thunder in my veins.
The little bit of rain I've had in my life makes me thirsty for the ocean.
I can't possibly settle for mediocrity. I have met men that are Kings among other men. Women that would make the light of the Virgin Mary seem dim. I have seen things in my life that others dream of- yet, it's not enough.
Haven't we all questioned what was real? Because I see it, is it there?
I do this, don't I? I think too much. I question too much.
I feel something that I can not place. I understand something now, that I can not name.
Thank you.

Apollo, nice try...
but if you rated it as it was worth- (giving me a 0), why did you +2 it before?
Ah- the mystery that is you.

I get that tingling feeling of impending change every time I have to make poo.
It's like losing a part of myself. A part I will never regain. You know?

My list of "nevers":
Never become complacent.
Never be satisfied.
Never give up.
Never go with the flow.
Never fall into a routine.
Never lose the ability to laugh or see humor in a situation.
Never be predictable.
Never lose your temper or patience.
Never stop learning.
Never stop the music in the middle of a hoe-down.

Razor, that's what I'm getting at. It's not that I dislike where I am in life... it's just that I realize that there is so much more to experience before I can ever say "I'm satisfied". Ya dig?

Daking- thanks... you're awesome.

I do so like the way you write Nuggeta.
It is like prose in a way and vey sensitive. It is hard to believe you work retail but then that is just my stereotypical mindset coming in.
To be honest I see a lot of what you are talking about with myself and wife and various frinds. It is like every one is on the verge of breaking through to something and we don't quite know what it is or where it will go.
If I was a hippy (ok I sort of am an old hippy) then I would say it is the dawning of a new age.
Aquarius? I don't think so but something.

Shandy-
Yes, that line is a bit dramatic. But v. accurate. I do feel as if I met amazing people this weekend... but that sentence was more around many different people in my life. It's more about those people who DO things, the people who ARE things, the people that affect us greatly just by being themselves.
It just puts me in the mindset that there are amazing people out there... lucky for me there were quite a few of "those people" at Dans house.

believable and evocative, except for this bit which seems overly dramatic:
I have met men that are Kings among other men. Women that would make the light of the Virgin Mary seem dim. I have seen things in my life that others dream of
