i don't even know how long it's been since i thought of you. but it's been a while.
wasn't even paying attention to my train of thought, so i couldn't say when you entered the picture. but was running through how a friday night with my friends might go and all of the sudden i realize that you've been there for the whole thought. such a familiar, comfortable presense that i never questioned you being there at all.
then when i realized that it couldn't be right that you'd be with me, i saw you to the door. i imagined that we talked for a minute or two outside the door, away from the crowd. i told you that i couldn't believe that after all this time i could still be this in love with you.
i didn't expect a response. don't think i wanted to hear it again anyway.
then i thought about cupping the side of your head in my hand and just looking into your eyes again. the feel of our arms around each other. hard to believe your memory can still stir up that feeling after so long.
but then, even in my dream, reality unfolded and you turned and walked away. it feels so fresh it might as well have just happened again.
i can't imagine ever feeling the same way about anyone agian.
and i've lost you.
