Recently I (electrictoothsyndrome) was banned for spamming. If I might take a moment of your time to try and plead my case, it would be appreciated. Here I will try and outline as best I can without having to search trough every post that both I and Fetish had responded to the reasons for my actions that lead to my ban.
As for the reason for my recent lashing out at Fetish: I was trying to respond to the barrage of -2s I and other users were constantly receiving from him. He started what I perceived as a SPAM attack on my posts. Sure it was only 5 or so, but that is about 15% of my posts. He picked the ones with very few reviews in the hopes of making a large dent in my rating while remaining under the definition of "SPAM" that apparently you (Bart) have defined. His mission was apparently accomplished because he succeeded in drawing me into retaliation mode with the damage he'd done, while at the same time having a measure of deniability to accusations of spamming by rating said messages with copies of ratings I had given him, many of which were, themselves responses to prior inflammatory ratings he'd given to other users as well as myself on what were otherwise well-rated posts.
How am I to respond to this? My feud with Fetish was, as far as I was concerned, between us, and should not have involed Bart at all. So, we both got spammed...so what! The irony here is I was actually inadvertantly helping him acheive his goal of climbing the MVA. Why am I the one banned while Fetish comes away unscathed? What is the definition of Spam when this user keeps rating my posts with -2s leaving no comments, not to mention rating other users' good posts with the same disrespectful demeanor on a CONSTANT basis.
Actually this feud started on someone else's post...I cannot remember which one(s) it was because I didn't think to log the event at the time, (that's how little I cared then), but since then this fucker has been prodding and prodding me continuously. I tried to respond in reasonable ways, i.e. -2ing the stupid shit he posted, and simply not rating the decent stuff. But this escalated to the point where Fetish actually started going back into my past posts and rating them as described above, to which I responded in a way I saw fit and justified - I spammed the shit out of him. What can I say? I was totally fed up with his shit! And I don't think I was alone...
Apparently, from what I hear, users don't usually get reinstated. Although I wish you (Bart) would reconsider. I have done nothing but sing the praises of this wesite since I came across it. Thereare only a small handful of users who I care nothing about...everyone else has been fair, and awesome. My recent attacks have been out of character and were in no way some random vendetta against innocent users. They were, instead, a targeted attack on a user who himself displays little or no respect for people who put genuine effort and meaning into their posts. I have never attacked someone who I thought were sincere in their postIn fact, I wish you could see a rundown of my average ratings I have left on posts, you would see that it's safely in the + even with the recent spamming of Fetish.
I created this account because I wanted to get other users' opinions on these issues, and to give other users who do not wish to personally start a war some sort of recourse against the Uber bullies that run amok. If you cannot reinstate my account, can I at least be given the courtesy of bending your ear for a moment to petition you, from one long-time Cub fan to another, to consider letting the other users help decide my fate?
Might I suggest you post the issue and allow an open floor for voting by users with a respectable # of posts...You could at least give that much courtesy to a poster who have never offended you directly or spoken ill of you, or anyone else who didn't deserve it (like Fetish.)

Yay Sundays at work because I can catch up on all the heated crap.
I just have two things to say about this.
1. The whole I'm Not Emailing Bart Because He Doesn't Care About Me crap is exactly that...crap. Bart is a good guy, and if you have an issue, I am sure he would be happy to respond to a valid grievance, which I think this is. I mean, I emailed him a random "anyway, cool site man" email that was about the most pointless thing ever, and I was just feeling appreciative, and he sent me back a great email. All he really had to do was ignore it, or write back "uh huh," but he didn't. He's a good guy. Even if he just emailed you back with a note that said tough shit, maybe you should suck less. Love, Bart," you would have at least made an attempt at dealing with it behind the scenes rather than hauling the dirty-and-vaguely-whiny laundry out on Uber. I know you keep saying it's not a plea, it's a petition, but your responses sound more like you expected everyone to rally behind you and get all "YEAH, Bart, let him back," and Bart would just go for it. That's not the way it works, and unfortunately, even though it might be nice to have a group of your peers decide if you should be gone (which by the way I don't), that's just not the way things work around here. And you know that.
2. Fetish is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma, bundled with twine made out of a combination of crazy and apathy. While I think it's annoying, pointless and stupid to see him get into these demented flame wars and bickerfests with people, he also has rarely been unfair on my posts. I often think that my writing deserves higher than a +1 or a 0, both of which he bestows on me somewhat frequently, but he also explains why...he just doesn't get my stuff, so he doesn't rate it as highly. And that's fine. I even tried writing a few posts that were less...I dunno, artsy? Abstract?...in an attempt to put up something people reading at Fetish's analysis level and effort-giving-willingness level would be able to enjoy. I want my writing to be accessible and entertaining, so for him to say "I don't get it" helps me. He's a master of manipulation...he goes after people who he can get a reaction out of. I'm not really sure how he tells, and I'm not sure I want to, because that would destroy the mystery, but the thing is, it's nothing you don't know about him. Spamming is stupid and pointless.

I'm fairly sure everyone here has been given crappy ratings they didn't deserve and bitchy comments from people who, for no apparent reason, hate their guts. But - and listen closely, try to focus, darlin' - going back to that person's post and spamming hell out of them (even on somebody else's behalf - people are well able to take care of themselves) is the height of immaturity.
This post was uneccessary. Your defense of your actions is not warranted. You got angry, you fucked up, and you behaved like a child. And "But Fetish does it" is not a valid excuse. It just seemed favoritist to me. I sympathize with Vengeance's position here. Fortunately for me apparently, I do not have any issues with Fetish accordingly my comments have nothing to do with him. AND I don't really know the history of ETS or Vengeance so I have no allegiance there either. However...
I suspect each of us has felt the pang of what we consider to be a harsh and/or undeserved rating. Should we care? No. Clearly in the big picture Ubersite is inconsequential (at least I hope so). But in the smaller picture, some of us do. I'm one of them. Some of us put effort and pride into our posts and strive for higher ratings which in theory indicates better writing which in theory is one of the positive effects of Ubersite ratings. Spamming or revenge ratings distort that picture. We all can agree on that.
So what do we do if we feel we are a victim of spam or revenge (definition being rating based on something other than the content of the post)?
Ignore it. Be above it. Do as AshK so succinctly put it pay attention to the reviewers that you respect and fuck the ratings. I AGREE.
But what if it keeps happening? What if everyday we show up for school and the bully in the playground thumps us on the head, takes our lunch money and calls us ugly? Eventually, we don't like school anymore. We could quit coming, leave Uber altogether if we can't take it. Perhaps we dedicate a whole post designed to attack offender, there doesn't' seem to be a problem with that. We could wait and hope for the ubiquitous and undefined bart justice. OR...we could try to fix the problem, take action, make it better so we can continue to enjoy Uber school.
IF the reason for ETS's banning was because of the 'Vengence /Dark Angel ' post I am guilty of playing along. I thought it an interesting concept for there to be a Uber judge/committee to openly assess the validity of a rating if it is considered spam or vengeful by the poster. Not being privy to the criteria that the all mighty bart uses, why not let there be an open discussion as to whether a fellow community member is acting within the bounds of the spirit of Uber if a 'complaint' is submitted for discussion.
An interesting concept is all I'm saying. In hindsight, I don't agree with inflicting the -2 punishment on unrelated posts and as Vengence did do this he/she is therefore guilty of what is apparently the banning offense of spamming (albeit, based on a sense of issuing justice versus the less admirable spamming just because you're an annoying asshole).
If spamming (see earlier definition) is a banning offense, than justice should be served universally and without discrimination. Not a small task.

I don't know if I agree that Fetish should be banned necessarily, but something needs to be done besides ban me for merely doing what I thought needed to be done to put Fetish in his place and at least make it difficult for him...cause now, he'll have to create 6 more alters to rate his own posts again to fix the damage I did...but I see I don't even have that satisfaction any more - my spams were being removed I think.

Perhaps, but his whims have a vicious tendency to go into people's histories and rate many posts poorly on the basis that he is in a bad mood.
I agree that vengeance is being a pussy over being banned, but I don't blame him, and that is for two reasons. First, it sounds like he didn't realize that Bart is a pretty forgiving guy who just wants people to know their role and the rules of this site. IE no spamming. But he'll probably get his account back. Although who knows, I have no idea how Bart responds to temper tantrums. But secondly, and far more important is the underlying issue here. That is Fetish's childish need to abuse the rating system for the purpose of perpetuating and causing altercations between members that ultimately increases attention towards him. Not to mention the constant linkwhoring on unrelated posts.
This is a content submission website. The rating system exists to help people determine which posts and authors are worth reading. I speak as someone who has not written that many posts, and who has not made himself a huge target for Fetish in the past; yet I am observing this trend as a third party.
Fetish is a dick, his posts aren't anything special, and he's causing disruption among several users. Do what anyone would do in any other organization: remove the source of the problem. Ban Fetish, ban his alters, ban his IP, kline his ISP if need be. Ban anyone who gives constant -2s. Write a script to ban anyone who has given more than 10 -2s to posts by a single author that were previously rated 1 or higher on average by more than ten users.
Shit, I don't care how you decide to go about it, but we need to increase the peace up in here. I'm tired of Fetish exploiting the public opinion for increased visibility on this site.

Why are you getting so fired up about it? There really is no need. Getting a -2 from Fetish doesn't bother me, so don't get antsy on my behalf. Regardless of what rating people give me, I'm pretty proud of my posts, purely because I wrote them (- Yes, I'm a narcissistic little fucker). I also happen to think that the majority of my posts are pretty damn solid in terms of quality - no random "-2 die" is going to send me spiralling into the depths of despair. I think you'll find a lot of the decent posters on this site feel the same way - they know exactly what they're capable of, regardless of what ratings they get.
I've had -2's from Fetish and I've had +2's from Fetish - he rates according to his whims, just like the rest of us do. It's not up to you to dictate how he should and shouldn't rate. Sure, he acts like a complete twatbadger sometimes, but who's looking like the bigger cunt here - the guy running the scam or the guy getting banned for playing along?

Bart banned him, he used a proxy.
Bart could take measures to ensure that he doesn't come back regardless of whether he uses a proxy or not, but I guess that's too much work for bart.

You're right! This is pretty juvenile! I come to this site to escape boredom and to get feedback on things that I write, and to give some constructive feedback on things other people write. I think I have done that for the most part.
Of course, there were times when I did succumb to the urge to just -2 someone out of principle and not necessarily on the quality of the post, which I regret, (Sorry Gibberish!), but moments hit you...it happens. I can honestly say I never did this to someone whose post was obviously good and who showed others a decent measure of respect. (I am sure this will be debated)
Seriously though...If I (electrictoothsyndrome) have ever rated you...look at it and see if I didn't at least try to explain the motivation behind my rating, or give some hint as to how the post could be improved...

I have repeatedly said I was not worried about my rating...I don't care about ratings...In fact, one of the first things I did when i created my alter was to -2 my OWN POST! Like I said, it's the principle of the matter that someone can be so fucking disrespectful to users who had not warranted such disrespect.
