I spent alot of my childhood in a small country town called Denmark, which is situated on the southern coast of Western Australia. I'm very proud to be Australian, but there are some things about being Australian that I'm not so proud of. One of those things is what took place in Denmark around the 1900's.
One of the biggest problems in Australia has been the difficulties experienced by Aboriginals in adapting to living in white society. The culture clash has lead to rampant alcoholism, domestic violence, solvent abuse and sex crimes. For a long time these problems have been placed in the "too hard" basket, but back in the old days white people thought they had the perfect solution to these issues. Genocide.
Rewind back to Denmark in the 1900's, and all of the local Aboriginals have been rounded up into the middle of town by the local white population. The whites have then proceeded to slaughter them all (numbers are sketchy, but apparently there were like 100 or so aboriginals) and dump their bodies in the river. Consequently the aboriginals in the south west were horrified and refused to live in Denmark up until the last couple of years.
It's important to remember that genocide was still perfectly acceptable up until fairly recently. In fact genocide still takes place all over the world so you could make the argument that it is still is acceptable to some degree.
Never forget the atrocities that humans are capable of, never forget that alot of the land we live on probably belonged to some pieceful native race a few hundred years ago, until someone decided that it was worth committing mass murder in order to obtain the land. There really has never been a race of predators on this earth quite like us, who are capable of acts of such evil.

Shit I don't even study law, yet I seem to be more competent in arguing a case then you are. How the fuck did you get a law degree!
That's what I love about American colleges, so easy to buy a degree if you have the money. At least here in Australia we have to study and earn ours.

What exactly makes you think that races such as the Aboriginals and American Indians are "dead wood"? Before white settlement, most indigenious races lived in harmony with the land. In fact they were easily more in touch with the land then white civilization is. But then we came along and went "My god, all they're wearing is loin cloths! Let's take all their land, rape their women and kill any of them who disagree! Man these primitives are going to be easy to swindle

I agree that some cultures have some truly barbaric traditions, but wiping out an entire race because of some fucked up customs isn't the answer.
Yes Koolmang I see the point you are trying to make, and yes I believe that forced marriages and other such barbaric customs are wrong. But using this as an excuse for justifying genocide just doesn't cut it. Somehow I think that genocide is a much bigger crime and definately a bigger violation of human rights.

The only reason we should be spared is we are not primitives. We have economies, high-tech militaries, internet etc. We have laws which say the bad apples can go to jail, whereas the primitives don't have these laws.
What if the tribes of Africa decided to have a big FFA battle? Would we have to leave them alone because it's their cultural right to have these stupid skirmishes? There is nothing wrong with genocide as long as the attacker is more advanced in every way than the primitive.
I saw on JAG once they were trying to determine the DNA of these bones, and some dickhead Native American dude was like "I can't allow you to do that, we must let the Great Spirit determine the owner of those bones." Wtf? Okay, we have all this cool science which can do almost ANYTHING, and you have these stupid witch doctors and spirit judges. Lock them up in a mental asylum!
The only reason we can't do this to the natives or primitives is because they have some "claim" to this land. I'm going to be working my ass off in college, while the Indians are going to get %50 off of tuition because they couldn't protect their land hundreds of years ago. Awww, poor baby! Maybe the Chinese should give the Tibetans tuition cuts because they raped their country brutally.

A Northern Territory judge ruled in October that a 15-year-old Aboriginal girl "knew what was expected of her" and "didn't need protection" when a 50-year-old man, who was later revealed to have been convicted of slaughtering his former wife, allegedly raped the girl and shot a gun into the air when she complained about it. Expert testimony submitted by an anthropologist in the case called the man's arrangement with the girl "traditional" and therefore "morally correct."
The girl's parents had "promised" her as a wife to the man, Jackie Pascoe Jamilmira, at the girl's birth, in return for a portion of Pascoe's fortnightly government allowance. The girl resisted his advances, so he punched her, "put his foot onto my neck" and raped her, according to her statement to the police. When the girl's family was unable to protect the girl, police took Pascoe, brandishing a shotgun, into custody.
Later, when the girl refused to speak to prosecutors, the judge pressed rape charges against Pascoe anyway. Government-sponsored legal aid lawyers provided Pascoe's defense, netting him a nominal 24-hour-sentence on appeal. Several high-ranking government officials nodded with approval when the appeal judge upheld Pascoe's defense, explaining that while Pascoe knew he had done something wrong in the eyes of Western law, his conduct was "Aboriginal custom" and part of his culture. The settlers were responsible for both directly and indirectly killing ALL the Aboriginals in Tasmania. They kidnapped thousands of Aboriginal children and adopted them into white homes.
Still, walking past a bunch of Aboriginals at night still scares the shit out of me. They ALWAYS, ALWAYS ask for money or smokes. At least I have never been bashed, but I always keep a couple of dollars in my pocket outside of my wallet so when they ask for money I don't have to pull out my wallet.
