I have decided to compile a list of the best bands in existence, on the basis of originality, musical skill, and/or longevity.
Let the list begin.
1. Radiohead. 6 albums of pure genius, minus Amnesiac. THat was just a mud puddle in the path to legend-dom. ALBUMS: Pablo Honey, The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A, Amnesiac, Hail to teh Thief
2. UNKLE. More a project than a band, but James Lavelle rocks my world. ALBUMS: Psyence Fiction, and Never, Never, Land.
3. Led Zeppelin. They rule in all three categories. Original, successufl and prolific, and highly skilled. It's a shame john Bonham is dead. ALBUMS: I, II, III, IV, Presence, In Through The Out Door, Physical Graffiti, Coda (might have missed one).
4. Stereophonics. The Welsh Wizards of rock! Great sound, mixing acoustic and harder elctric elements veyr well. Kelly Jones's voice is killer too. ALBUMS: Word Gets Around, Performance and Cocktails, Just Enough Education To Perform, You Gotta Go There To Come Back.
5. The Doobie Brothers. Southern rock done right. ALBUMS: The Doobie Brothers, Toulouse Street, The Captain & Me, What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits, STampede, Takin' It To The Streets, Livin' On the Fault Line, Minute By Minute, One Step Closer, Cycles, Dangerous, Brotherhood, Excitement, Long Train Runnin.
6. Pink Floyd. Enough Said. I don't even have to name their albums.
7. The Stills. Just really good music. Like emo rock without all the bad stuff. ALBUMS: Logic Will Break Your Heart.
8. The Tragically Hip. One of the few good bands to ocme out of Canada in the 1900s. ALBUMS: The Tragically Hip, Up To Here, Road Apples, Fully Completely, Day For Night, Trouble At the Henhouse, Live Between Us, The Phantom Power, Music @ Work.
9. Bob Marley and the Wailers. Defined Reggae, gave power to Jah people. Then died of brain cancer. ALBUMS: Soul Shakedown, Soul Rebels, Catch a Fire, Burnin', Natty Dread, Rasta Revolution Rastaman Vibration, Exodus, Reflection, Kaya, Survival, Uprising.
10. The Alan Parsons Project. The only good band during the 80s. ALBUMS: Too fucking many too name.
There you go. The 10 best in ym mind. If there's one that I missed and I agree with your suggestion or "fuck you how could you not include ________" comments, I will augment the list.
Enjoy!

Pearl Jam is a GOOD band, but way off from being even one of the best.
They're a good band in the same sense that Porky's was a good movie.

Holy shit! How could I have forgotten Pearl Jam?
I actually agree with that one. But the Doors were pretentious, and Nirvana didn't make music, hence they were not a band.

I can't believe a list like this is compiled and you didn't pay any attention to the early 90's Seattle bands that literally changed the face of music:
One of these four: Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, or Alice and Chains, easily makes this list.

I disagree. Parlement Funkadelic and Powerstaion were the best bands of the 80's

you're kidding, right? the Doors had a couple good songs, but they are nothing special. and that fucking electric organ they play annoys the fuck out of me.

Say what you want about the bands chosen, but at least they aren't all retread. I don't agree with your choices, but none of them are horrible.

Judas Priest, they've been around since the late 60's and were even at OzFest this year, doesn't that count for being around for over 30 years?
