Day 1 Two groups of people, We'll call them the Dems and Reps, are given equal amounts of resources
in a land full of opportunities. The Reps see possibilities and make plans to improve their
lives. The Dems see insurmountable tasks and hard work ahead. They form a committee to plan
a protest against their plight.

Day 2 The Reps fell trees for shelter and warmth. Fields for crops are prepared. Nuts and berries
are gathered from the wild to feed themselves.
The Dems discuss their woeful plight. They travel to the river, but won't catch fish to feed
themselves, as the fish have rights to consider. They do drink the water as it has no
feelings. Committee meetings are attended.

Day 3 The reps have built roads, shelters and a school. The fields are planted and children are
raised in homes with a man and woman providing for their care.
The Dems have children running wild, few knowing their fathers. Dirty and hungry, they stare
in wonder at the reps easy lifestyle.

Day 4 The Reps enjoy a modest standard of living, having worked hard and planned ahead. The
children learn to plan for a future of better roads, food production and the application
of sciences.
The Dems now stand at the border, still hungry, dirty and little educated. How, they wonder,
can they have so much, it is all so unfair. They drink more water but leave the fish to
their fish lives.

Day 5 The Dems, at the border, say "You must share what you have with us. Have you no compassion
for your fellow man? We are hungry and without shelter, you who have so much must help us."
The Reps, feeling sorry for their neighbors, give them food, clothing and shelter. It is
not the best available but is adequate for survival.

Day 6 The Dems, with their second best food and shelter say "You who have so much, must make us
your equals. We want the same food clothing and shelter. Oh yeah, educate our children too."
The Reps give more of their resources to their fellow man, who make yum-yum noises over the
food, let their shelters decay and wash not their clothes.

Day 7 The Reps have expended their resources caring for the Dems. Their fields cannot provide for
all. The schools are overcrowded with undisciplined children. The shelters are in disrepair
as the reps cannot provide all the needed labor. Basically, the place has gone to shit.
The Dems say "You who had so much, how could you let this happen?"

Wow, three years later and you sure were right. The country is in a much better place thanks to the "Reps" victory in 2004. Way to call it, jackass.

Hidden101: "of course you'd outsource, you greedy son of a bitch. i wouldn't do it to make a buck. i have scruples and i believe in the American worker."
------------------------

Hahahah! What a riot! You're telling me that if you had a choice between hiring Mexican workers and American workers and 300,000 dollars in labor costs were on the line, you'd still go ahead and hire Americans that cost more and do the same job? You're full of crap! Not only that, but you have the most facile, sophomoric understanding of economics that I've ever seen in someone who's figured out how to breathe. I really should give you my phone number - typing all the ways that you're wrong would take gigabytes.

Hidden- How about the fact American corporations are tired of paying the tax bill for society leeches. If I could protect my assets and use them as I see fit, I'd move them overseas too.
Dozens of corporations were run out of NY by years of taxes used to support a mommy state. Now the place is a wasteland populated by gimmees with their handout. I left years ago and remain glad I got my family away from that shit.

Hidden - I honestly believe that it is okay to give away jobs in this country to people overseas. I also believe that it is okay for companies in other countries to move jobs over here if our work-force is superior and cost-effective.

Instead of you being able to get a NICE PAYING job, that you WORKED YOUR ASS OFF TO EARN, some guy living in poverty in India can get three dollars a day to do YOUR job?

Okay, first, you're a computer guy, right? How many other computer guys are there out there? How many new ones graduate EVERY SEMESTER, and how many of them are all looking for that NICE PAYING job? Look, the market is flooded in the first place, and those like you, who think that just because they are young and white in America, they are entitled to some plush gig without having to work in order to get it, are in for a shock.

Are you saying that that guy living in poverty in India didn't also bust his ass to get the credentials to qualify for that job? Are you alleging that he has no credentials, or that the ones he has are fraudulent?

If he's doing "your" job worse than you could have done it, then that will shake out in time. The corporation that hired him will find that he isn't meeting their needs. When that happens, he's gone. Odds are though, he's probably willing to work harder to maintain his value to that corporation than you are.

And yes, I like the idea of corporations making money. More to the point, I like the idea of shareholders making money. I like the idea of corporations making SO much money that they can take a look around and try to figure out NEW ways to make money.

Hidden101: outsourcing isn't about competition. it's about greed. greed that will ultimately hurt the whole country, but only help a few people make a few more million on top of the millions they already make.

Huh? I can't believe I'm reading this from someone who purports intelligence. Sure it's about greed. Are you saying that they should hire American labor and make less money? And who are you to tell anyone who they hire? If I own a business capable of employing across the globe, why should I pay more for employees? Why would I ever? Are you nuts?

================================================

and you say i'm the stupid one? did you read what i said? outsourcing hurts the economy! i'm living proof. in my field, tons and tons of jobs go to India. so guess what? while i can't find a job, i'm not making money, which means i'm not spending money. let's multiply that by millions. i hope you are able to come to the obvious conclusions. poorer and unhappier Americans.

of course you'd outsource, you greedy son of a bitch. i wouldn't do it to make a buck. i have scruples and i believe in the American worker. that's the thing about you Republican assholes- you don't realize how much greed hurts this country in the long run.

Freebie - Atlas Shrugged is the quinessential work by novelist/philosopher Ayn Rand. It, very ably in my opinion, makes the case for Capitalism as opposed to socialism. In that book, a character named John Galt (kind of a Nietzchie-an "Ubermensch") calls a strike by all the "men of mind" the industrialists and otherwise capable "rich white men" who are so oft maligned by the Left. The book then explores the consequences of their refusal to work under a system that forces them to give up what they earn at the point of a gun. The point there is that the Socialist system only works if there are people willing to work "for the common good" as opposed to their own good. That doesn't happen. If you haven't read this book, you ABSOLUTELY MUST. Although I will warn you, it is long and boring, but still worth it for all of that.

As for whoever asked this:
Wow, so you support American corporations sending jobs overseas so they can avoid paying living wages, health insurance for American workers, and retirement benefits?

That's just fucking sad. And I would say it certainly negates any claims that the Republican party represents the best interest of the American worker.

What the hell is a "living wage?" and is that even CLOSE to what Hidden is looking for? I doubt it. So right there, you are off base to start with.

Health insurance and retirement benefits are what companies HAVE to offer in order to compete with other companies to get QUALITY employees in a competitive system. I have no problem with that. But I also don't have a problem with companies finding quality employees elsewhere.

Someone below whined about people "relying" on jobs that Corporations were sending overseas . . . since when does "reliance" or, more honestly, "want" ENTITLE you to anything?

Are you the best at what you do? If so, you have nothing to worry about. People will pay what you ask. If you aren't you are going to need to step up and COMPETE to EARN your living. In the end, that IS the best interest of the American worker.

Only the strong survive. Get used to it.

<sigh> The American worker's interest is not served by policies that make them less competitive. Go on - give them government-mandated healthcare, daycare, paid maternity and paternity leave, higher minimum wages. Then shut your stupid yap when the unemployment rate is 11% and you're whining that the president isn't creating enough jobs.

Josie - the reason you are sick of hearing the Atlas Shrugged arguement is because Republicans keep bringing it up. The problem is, I have never heard (neither here or elsewhere) a refutation of it. Especially not a logical or reasonable one, one free of emotionalism. Even here, look at the responses this brief summary of the argument has garnered.

Blow me.

Fuck off.

At least Phalyc Cymbals gets credit for trying to make an argument, without resorting to outright insults. But his argument, such as it is, also relies on emotionalism.

"YES!" Cry the reps, and begin to chant...

"1- I am the only deity. All those people with colored skin and foreign passports are evil. And they smell funny. You should glare at them and blame them for stuff whenever possible!

2- Love your neighbor. Note: Neighbor means next door, not overseas. See above in regards to those weird foreign types. Also, those foreigners next door aren't neighbors either, there scroungers. Blame them for stuff.
etc..."

"you know," say the dems, "we were just trying to put ourselves in their place. You know, empathy?"

"Empa-what? Listen, if its not a synonym for progress (economic), you may as well go to one of those gay abortion clinics and die"
